It's a good thing he retired and didn't end up being a punch bag.

Best of luck to John Duddy.

Better to retire now in good health than later when he's not.

I saw Duddy fight at the Garden back in 2005, on the same card with Joel Casamayor. I'd heard some good things about John and hoped he would look as good as he sounded. That night he won a unanimous decision against Patrick Thompson. My impression was that he would have a solid career, but didn't have the goods to be a top competitor. He gave it as good a run as his talent would allow. A wise man knows when it's time to hang it up.

Best of luck to you, John. You're a class act and a credit to the Irish.

31 have tried, 29 have failed.

It's just too bad he ran in to the great Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who 41 fighters have tried to beat and all 41 have failed.

                  Chavez Jr ruins fighters.

Good luck with your life, John Duddy.
