I saw Duddy fight on the Cotto-Malignaggi undercard @ MGS in 2006. I remember being outside of MSG and Duddy was signing autographs and giving away t-shirts to the fans. He seemed like a cool dude.
Good luck to him in the future.

Props to Duddy, you could tell the fire has been gone for years. He was never great, but was once an exciting fighter, once it burned out, you could see he was just going through the movements.
This sport is too dangerous for that. A lot of fighters get a big fight and think the fire will come back. It doesn't, good training camps require a dedicated subject.

think it's a good move on his part. He has been in alot of wars, and seemed to not be the same fighter he once was imo. Fun to watch, and a nice fella. Enjoy bro!

Good luck to John Duddy in his retirement.
best of luck to duddy, seemed like a cool guy. his last fight with chavez jr wasnt all that, so it would be hard to bounce back from that performance, and claim a title or top ranked spot, but good luck to him in retirement.

I remember reading a story by Thomas Hauser or someone at the Ring about how badly Duddy got screwed over by some shady promoters and managers and how he lost a few years of his career just fighting them legally.
That alone can make people just say **** it and retire.
