Comments Thread For: Barrera Still Feels He Was Jobbed in The Marquez Fight

Yes, I remember watching the fight. Marquez seemed to throw more punches but Barrera was more accurate. Both Barrera and Marquez are great fighters. The fight was close but I thought Barrera pulled it out. I think that if they fought today Marquez would clearly win now. Still, Barrera was one of the best in his prime.

Jay Nady did a terrible job that night... And the judges lopsided score for Marquez were ridiculous.

Regardless of the knockdown which should have been legitimate, the round should have been a 9-8 round in favor of Marquez anyway. Marquez dominated the round quite easily hurting Barrera. Barrera knocked him down on the last seconds then hit JMM on the ground wich was a fair point deduction.
I've seen and scored the fight many times and I can't see the fight going for Barrera even by being generous. It wasn't as wide as the official judges made it out to be but you can not honestly call it a robbery.

If you reverse the slip and the point deduction for MAB, you have a much closer fight, assuming the judges give Barrera 10 -8 for that round. I think that would have made it a majority draw on the scorecards with 2 judges scoring it even and one in favour of Marquez. I thought Marquez did just enough that night but the scoring definitely wasn't fair to Barrera.Last edited by girv; 01-18-2011, 06:49 PM.
