Spray - Tarver lost BODY FAT, not MUSCLE!! Do you even know the difference???? And what losing muscle does to an athelete???? Apparently not. EVERYONE saw a pale, gaunt Jones and said he looked sick. Losing muscle speeds up the aging process and decline. You do NOT understand physiology. There ARE no muscle reserves. Stop while you are behind.

I get that its different and he lost some muscle but its not as dramatic as ppl claim and you are incorrect about him losing "20lbs of muscle", he lost about the 8lbs he put on and then 10lbs of water he normally does to make LHW.

If he was so drained then why was he able to a couple years later apparently lose 5lbs more and fight Tito at 169 with no ill effects?

Tarver was just very good at the time and Roy got older, slower, and got caught......it doesn't matter and he doesn't get a pass because he fought Tarver the 1st time, won, and lost the rematch more than a year after the Ruiz fight.

I doubt losing 8lbs of muscle a year earlier dramatically effected the outcome of their 2nd meeting.

The Trinidad fight was years later and he took the time to get down. The body cannot process the loss of protein at a rapid pace. If Jones had slowely trimmed off weight, his muscles would have slightly decreased in size without affecting his whole matabolism. He aged himself and made a HUGE mistake being caught up by Tarver's taunts after the Ruiz fight. If he had fought Tarver before Ruiz, he would have dominated Tarver. He paid the price and shortened his post prime.

He may have easily beaten Tarver pre Ruiz because he was younger but I think the loss of speed as a result of age more than any other factor contributed to the loss in Roy/Tarver2 because more than a year is plenty of time to adjust in a small weight loss like that.

A year doesn't help. The problem with Jones was the damage was done. When an athelete over 30 does what Jones did to make weight...he did weigh in at 199 and then to drop down that fast when his body was RIPPED, it has lasting affects. Even rapid loss of body fat can have long term affects. I have heard this directly from pro boxers.

I find the thought interesting too Romey, only thing is it would probably be a stinker. Tarver is a crafty vet at any weight and Haye would probably play it safe with him. Tarver is not a bum, he's just well past his time of greatness and I think Haye would be too much for him. For some reason I see Haye taking this fight, much like Calzaghe wanted to take on Hopkins and Jones in the U.S., for name reckognition.

Even though I believe it would probably be a stinker of a fight, with Haye winning a UD at the end of the night, there is something compelling about it.

Tarver back in 2008 got a UD against a not 100% Clinton Woods of Sheffield so what chance as he got against a 100+% Haye.0% chance.
