It's purposely a tune up for the Margarito fight. Not a good enough fight for HBO to pick up...something I totally understand, so he's putting it on PPV.

Again, nothing wrong with it. It's a true service to our sport. Without all the Latin Fury's and all the other independent PPV's, how often would we be able to see Donaire, Soto, Montiel, and other great fighters that would hardly have a chance at getting picked up by a network.

My friend, $40 for a tuneup isn't a true service to our sport.

It is when the alternative is not being able to watch it at all. And the card will probably be decent top to bottom.

Having a problem with the fight is one thing. That I can understand.

Having a problem with it being on PPV? I just don't see what the better option is.

So what does that have to do with your statement of:

In fact, what does that have to do with this thread..

The only reason not being able to watch it is the alternative is because the mindset of the consumer is that it's ok to spend $40 on a tuneup. That circular argument is totally devoid of logic. The bottom line is that there is nothing good about a tuneup for $40. Nothing. I'd rather a thief pass me by then rob me but hey, I guess that's just me.

If the consumer wants to see a Cotto fight, it is his or her right to pay $40 for it.

Outside of proposing an upheaval to the way the boxing business work, I'm not sure where you're trying to go with this. To me, having an option is better than not having an option, especially when I'm not the one risking money on it.

Either way, we're running in circles, might as well agree to disagree.

I agree...but you don't. Why? Because you said you believe it's either pay $40 for a tuneup or there's no fight. I say don't pay if those are your choices. Stream, bootleg, whatever. Do that enough and then maybe they'll get the message and you'll get some real options.
