At least we are going to see Arum and King in a promotion again. Plus with Mayorga, it will be an exciting press conference.. Though I cant really the same thing about the fight.

            The answer is simple.

HBO turned down Cotto on that date for Martinez vs.....nobody.

It was either put it on PPV or don't televise it at all.

Independent PPV's are great for the sport, at some point people are going to have to understand the logistics of it.

It's not like Arum wants to risk his own money to put it on PPV as opposed to getting paid a license fee by a network. He's risking is own money to get his fighters exposure.

With all the terrible things Arum does for the sport, this is actually a MAJOR contribution he makes to boxing.

I understand the logistics quite fine. Just like I understand this would be a great headliner on ESPN2.

Thats the reason why Top Rank does better in building up fighters than any promoter because they can televise and produce their own shows.. They are not subservient on HBO and Showtime for TV dates..

Cause that's realistic. The highest budget you'll see for a FNF is like 100k. Whether you like the fight or not, Cotto demands, and rightfully so, about 20 times that amount.

TS is 100% right there is no reason for this fight at all other than trying to assure Cotto will not lose or be challenged again...that being said Cotto taking the fight makes me think he is alot more shot than even I thought. The fight is a travesty and Cotto should lose a p4p spot just for taking it.

What do you mean by rightfully so? No fighter should be commanding that kind of money for fighting Ricardo Mayorga at this stage. Sorry. You can sit here and say, "well, that's the way it is" and I'm cool with that. Doesn't it make it right or good. Just goes to show the sad state of affairs in the sport today.
