I wondered this myself after watching Khan some how stay on his feet. I know he has ko power.. but i don't think it's that explosive 1 punch ko power.Comment

his power is not overrrated the problem with maidana is he lacks fundeltmentals.if he acutally had a trainer that was worth a ***** and taught him to compact his punches and more body weight behind his punches his power would be unreal. gracia would be a perfect trainer for maidana too bad it will never happen
Kids got a lot of heart and talent, i think he can do better.Comment

IMO Maidana's power is overrated...in order for his power to come to affect he has to widen his punches and **** his fist back...Ortiz to me is the hardest puncher cuz he can drop any opponent with short punches his only flaw is that he's too scared to follow up with a finishing combo when his opponents are almost gone...Maidana has conditioning if you think about it...he throws every punch with bad intentions throughout the whole fight...he threw more punches than Khan did and every punch he threw were his hardest shots...his power would probably be compatible with Lamont's if Lamont widened and ****ed back his punches like Maidana does...Maidana's ability to throw these kinda punches without tiring out after the 7th round makes him unique in the division and is the reason why he is a dangareous opponent...if maidana threw short shots with a lil more speed you best believe his power would be enough to keep you honest...Comment

He doesnt have one punch ko power but he does have an accumalative power that if you get hit a second or third time you will go down but as Reed says it depends soley on whos doing the ratingComment

i think hbo, ring magazine and boxing people in general overrate everything but maidana hits hard. real hard. might not be 1 shot, gdnight go to sleep power but the man hits like a truck.Comment

Holt is a monstrous puncher but again, he lacks necessary things that would enable him to land those shots clean to take guys out. Tito was a huge puncher, but he was also fast and set them up perfectly so they would land frequently and often without the opponent seeing them.
It's not just about power. It's about how you set it up, can you get them in often and land them enough and also can you keep it up for longer than four/five rounds. Stuff like that. Maidana has amazing power but lacks many of the other things the best power punchers had.
Everyone keeps talking about one shot power and accumulative power. Usually, the only difference is how you set them up. If Maidana could set his up properly and land them without the other guy seeing we would be saying he has amazing one punch KO power but he's slow and the shots are easy to see coming. Hearns on the other hand would set up his power shots like few could and so when his right hand or left hook would land the guy wouldn't ever see it and it's an immediate lights out shot.
Maidana has one punch KO power but just doesn't set them up well and they're easy to see.Last edited by BennyST; 01-01-2011, 10:09 PM.Comment
