Meldrick Taylor vs Pernell Whitaker at 140.

    Two great fighters.

    Fast hands.

    One had elite defense.

    One had amazing offense.

Just finished watching both of there performances against Buddy McGirt again.

I've seen the majority of both of there careers.

Its a shame this fight never happened.

Who wins this epic battle of 1984 US Olympic teammates.

I think ether way its a close fight.

They train together and they know each other.

Meldrick is naturally bigger and their handspeed was nearly equal.

Taylor had faster hands than Whitaker and I could see Meldrick outpointing him by being more active.

Whitaker had a tendency to go for long stretches of time without throwing punches.

                  I'd agree with that.

Though I see a MD or a SD going to Sweat Pea.

Taylor had faster hands and a better workrate, but Whitaker is also very good in these areas as well. Whitaker is the smarter fighter, considerably more difficult to tag, and I think this is the main difference as he wins a 8-4 type fight.
