Time to **** or get off the pot before he gets too old to beat the top guys.
That's the point. He's fighting bums in Europe while getting paid decent and not risking the loss of his title. This is where the resentment from America fighters comes from; dude is making money by fighting nobodies and holding the belts hostage. Any time there's a risk that doesn't involve a multi-million dollar payday, he can just price himself out and avoid the fight.

I'm not talking about Sergei specifically, and i'm definitely not talking about all European boxers, but it's no secret that this is a common problem.

Why does Berto make over a million to fight 140 pound nobodies but Martinez, The Middleweight Champion of the world makes peanuts? Berto won't even fight Cintron and Martinez KO'd him and won a decision. Name one name on Berto's resume that is even close to a Kelly Pavlik or a Paul Williams or even a Kermit Cintron. This is pretty sick if you ask me. Martinez delivers the goods to HBO and gives them a highlight that made mainstream. It's time for HBO to deliver on their end. Martinez needs to get paid. They are trying to suck these fights out of him fast because they know he's old. Once he loses they won't have to pay him.

          paulf,

I disagree with you that "Dzinziruk is a champion too and deserves to be treated like one". Sergio Martinez is THE middleweight champion of the world. He's the lineal champ. Everyone else has trinkets.

Sergio Martinez beat the lineal champ Kelly Pavlik to get the middleweight title. Then, he destroyed the #3 p4p (at the time) fighter with one punch in the second round. Sergio Martinez is the champion at 160.

What has Dzinziruk done to be considered a champion?

            1)Berto speaks English
2)HBO is actively looking to reignite African-American's interest in boxing. Which is why they've been showcasing Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander, Andre Berto and now Zab Judah.
3)Although Latinos make up the majority of boxing's fanbase these days, fans usually support fighters of their nationality first (Mexicans, Puerto Ricans). Sergio is Argentine and there isn't a big base of Argentine-American boxing fans in America. The best selling fights for him would be against other latinos such as Margarito (Mexico vs Argentina) and Cotto (Puerto Rico vs Argentina)

You bunch of morons dont ****ing read. He is not asking for 750K, thats his minimum for any fight in wich his promoter sign him for. Who in their right mind will give away money that is rightfully theirs????

HBO needs to then pay both guys, pay Sergei his 750K and Sergio 1Mill. If they pay guys like Berto to fight bums, they can pay this guys what they are worth

To be fair to Dzinziruk, he really didn't sit on his belt and hold it hostage like most other Europeans do. He's fought Daniel Santos and Joel Julio. Other decent wins over Lujan and Konecny. His biggest problem is that he's fought all of one time since the start of 2009. Those promotional problems really fucked him. But hey, if he gets the Martinez shot, then it was all worth it. He would have never been considered for this fight if he was still with Universum.

Khan has a 1M minimum. He took less than that to get that Malignaggi fight signed. Dzinziruk needs to realize the gravity of this opportunity and make some concessions when it comes to money.
