Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has already explained the reasons on why Juan Manuel Marquez was overlooked for an opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Arum says Golden Boy Promotions, on behalf of Marquez - "overpriced" the Mexican boxer. According to a source with knowledge of Marquez's demands, the three-division champion had asked for a $5 million guarantee, while making $5 per pay-per-view buy above 500,000, for $8.5 million total if the fight generated 1.2 million buys.

So why didn't Berto get the shot if he is so "Tailor Made" for Pac?
Sure Berto hasn't fought anyone and he doesn't sell out crowds
but that doesn't change the fact that Berto is a champion with
an undefeated record and would be a good win for Pac because
people are already questioning his opposition. Wouldn't you think
that it would be in Pac's best interest to atleast fight someone
that people will think may make it competitive? Sure Berto is
green but he is still a professional fighter. Give the kid a shot!
Arum makes stacks on top of stacks, so that not big enough
draw bull**** excuse is nonsense.

He did well with Clottey. But we know the real reason and
it is not because Pac is scared. I finally see the whole picture
and it is basically Arum having beef with everyone he is supposed
to be putting on the best fights for the fans, bringing more people
to the sport and then making even more money. I don't understand
people in the industry sometimes. Instead of building something
up that has potential, they rather hop on the wagon, be greedy
and close the doors on everybody else to satisfy their personal
agendas. Same thing happening to the music industry is happening
to the sport of boxing. No substance at all. Manny should know
better BUT I wouldn't expect anything less from a guy who signs
a contract with one promoter then accepts a brief case full of
money in the back seat of a limo to only complicate the
relationship between Arum and Oscar more. Floyd may be
an @sshole these days but he was dead on right about Arum
and his intentions.

I have to agree with what ya said about Arum,but fact is this Clottey fought Pac after fighting who??You got it Cotto a draw and a seller of tickets himself,not to mention many felt Clottey won that fight with Cotto..Now lets also not forget Pac only had fought at 147lb once before fighting Clottey and there was drama about because Hoya was supposedly weight drain..Bottom line the Clottey fight made sense..But what ya said about Arum spot on..

Clottey came off a fight with Cotto who is very known and is a draw,Many felt Clottey won..Berto fought Collazo and many felt he lost and has not fought a threat since..He is undeserving of a shot until he steps up and proves himself forget about even being known..Just prove you are someone to fear..

A lot of floyd fans in here don't know that even if Mosley vs Manny only generates .9M PPV it will earn Arum more than Marquez vs Manny at 1.2M PPV and Marquez demands are not helping at all.

They must remember the only reason Marquez was able to earn around 5M was that both him and Floyd are promoted by GB.

Has nothing to do with "deserving" a shot. Did Mosley not have BIG names under his belt in 2009 when he was #1 WW and coming off a BIG NAME (Top Rank) fighter in Margarito? Everyone said Floyd was scared shytless of Molsey...... Mosley was "feared", yet he didnt get a shot at Pac then?

Bob has an agenda. "Marketability", Berto's not stellar on this subject but he has HBO on his nutz. They would make it an event and sell it. Clottey only got a shot because he fights under the banner of Top Rank, Mosley is ONLY getting a shot now in May 2011 because he left GBP and TOP RANK (the poster on BS) made a valid point that Mosley might have signed a contract stating he will fight under Top Rank for a fight or few.

Bob has an agenda and even if Berto the undefeated WBC WW Champion had fought someone and beat them, he would still have an excuse just as he did with Mosley, Mayweather, JMM III and even Martinez. There is always something. He contradicts himself from one fight to another to justify what he's trying to sell you at that moment. Yesterday he lied but swears that he's telling you the truth this time....

They raced to sign Mosley and will spend the next 4 months trying to sell the media that Mosley isn't old, shot, tired, dead, weak, slow, etc and what ever else everyone said at the time Mayweather clowned him post fight. Yet pre-fight some "fans" where betting Floyd wouldn't even STEP in the ring with him and was such a "coward" etc etc etc. Bob trashed that fight too yet now says Shane's "dangerous early" because he hit Floyd twice in one round out of the twelve.

He has an agenda and its not about a fighters "ability" like Is Berto good enough, or a fighter's "availability" like is Mayweather around but "Marketability". Mosley has a name, and regardless if he hasn't won a fight in 2 years, turning 40, already lost to Floyd, or even deserves a fight. Its the fact Bob will make good money, especially now that Mosley is not so "too good" or "golden" but "Spenda" Shane Mosley. He's the Diet, or half the sugar we once knew. He's looking for a check, him and Bob where on the same page. Has nothing to do about WHO Berto fought, beat, didn't beat but Mosley being the lowest bidder with a "big name", little threat at 40 years old and displaying it for the last 2 years.
