The Battle in Quebec

As You all know, B-hop is a legend. This may have been his finest performance since beating up Trinidad years ago. Because of a big, strong motivated champion in Pascal, Hopkins gave us yet another clinic I didn`t think he had left in him at 46. What you all don`t know is that Quebec wants to be big in boxing, to the point that we get controversial decisions like this now. This brings back the days of Don King, Richard Steele and stuff like that. Pure boxing fans know what I`m talking about. Hopkins won the fight. My girl scored it 115-112 Hopkins. Bottom line, Quebec boxing is corrupt. Pascal is a good fighter, pity he has to play by their rules. He is a product, that has to be marketed and kept winning for the promoters. This is one way Quebec fighters can invade the international scene. The other way is to actually find the great fighters and give them their chance.

Look, normally I refuse to call this kind of a decision a "robbery". It's kind of a bad decision, but it was a close fight due to the 2 legit knockdowns, so I can understand the draw.

That being said, I believe the scorecards will show the cheating that occurred by the second Francophone judge. The reason is the unnatural 114-114 score. As soon as they read the first score, 114-112, I knew that judge had Hopkins. That's a natural score for a fight where a guy suffered 2 early knockdowns but pretty clearly won the majority of the rounds. When they read 113-113 I was like "Huh?", but then realized that if you found a way to give Pascal 5 rounds and B-Hop won 7, then you get a 113-113 draw. OK, the hometown judge tried really hard and found a way to award Pascal 5 rounds. I guess if you look really hard you might be able to do that.

114-114? WTF? How you do you get that score from that fight? The 2 KDs mean two 10-8 rounds for Pascal. OK, so 114 means he won or tied 6 rounds and lost 6. How does Hopkins get up to 114 then, considering he scored 8 in two of the rounds? Since he lost two rounds 10-8, he could only have lost 4 rounds. So this clown had two even rounds from that fight? WTF? How do you get 2 even rounds out of that fight? The rounds were pretty clear cut. And even with 2 even rounds, how do you get 4 OTHER rounds where Pascal won?

If he wanted to cheat (and he clearly did), he shoulda turned in the 113-113 card. It was clear Hopkins won the majority of the rounds, but a 7-5 split screws him into a draw. But 6-4-2? Come the **** on... I am willing to bet that those two even rounds came late in the fight, when it was clear Hopkins would soon sweep past Pascal on the scorecards and never look back. This cheater must have waited too long, giving Hopkins those early rounds he won, figuring "Oh well, he's way behind, let's make this look like I am objective and honest". Then as it became clear that Hopkins had Pascal figured out and he could very well win EVERY remaining round, panic must have set in. If the two even rounds occurred late, which was the period Hopkins was most dominate, then the cheating is obvious. It becomes obvious that he paniced when Hopkins was set to pass the point of no return, but he didn't want to give Pascal the round, as that would be even more obvious.

As for the fight...

Great job by Hopkins, who looked really bad early. Chad Dawson lost because he fought Pascal ******. All he had to do is back Pascal up and not let himself get outworked. He should have known this, because every round he threw punches, he won. Still, he was lazy and ****** and allowed himself to be outworked in most of the rounds.

Contrast that with B-Hop's ring intelligence... Hopkins tried his usual strategy of waiting for his opponent to come to him, but Pascal can only fight when he is allowed to stay back and occasionally leap in awkardly, with quick, heavy punches. Hopkins usual strategy was not working, so he changed his game plan mid-stream. Most fighters can't do that, and it is such an important skill for a fighter to have. Great comeback from Hopkins...

Apryor has got it the way I was thinking. They robbed B-hop, the corrupt judges cheated, they did not think B-hop would come back to win nearly all the remaining rounds, so they gave Pascal 6 rounds. Pascal did not win more than 4 rounds on my girl`s card either, and she`s a girl. In fact, she gave Pascal credit for only one knock-down, as B-hop was clubbed behind the head, and B-hop indicated that.The ref was on the take as well, he is paid by the Quebec promoters, he is well known in Quebec for that, but the guy has wife and kids to feed, so I`m not hating.

People gotta remember a fight is scored round by round. A fighter could completely dominate 5 rounds and barely lose the other 7 rounds and lose the fight. With that said, I just don't see how people who thought BHop won 114-112 that a draw (113-113) is a completely robbery. The bottom line was the fight was very close and with the two knockdowns, Pascal only needed to win 3 other rounds to get the draw. That was not hard to do when a few rounds were very close and could have gone either way. Calling this highway robbery goes a bit far, especially when a few writers (including Doug Fischer), thought that Pascal has won. A draw was about as fair a verdict as I could see, since I scored it 113-113 as well. I think people are more incensed not because they thought B-Hop won but more because they were surprised he could still fight like that and gave him every benefit of the doubt...
