Comments Thread For: Bute vs Magee Continues To Loom For March 19 Clash

Magee is a pretty good fighter and the win over Larsen on Larsens hometurf was a very good although Larsen had an elbow injury. Magee was quite exiting I think, and he's a tough fight for anyone. That said he shouldn't give Bute much more trouble than Brinkley did.
Nice to see old pro Magee getting a good payday.
For Bute one begins to question his confidence and perhaps Interbox does the same. How else can you explain Bute's choice of opponents? In the past he has turned down Kessler, failed to secure a fight with Froch and latest he blatantly ducked the proposed canadian megashowdown with Pascal.
What underlines this assumption is that this fight with Magee is a volontary defense. This means that Bute must fight another mandatory in the summer. That mando is Mendy.
Bute surely cleans out the division.

I have it on good word that Dirrell won't even attempt to resume boxing activities until March-April of next year.
Even then it doesn't sound good from what I have been told they are pretty much expecting setbacks and he won't be rushing into any big fights.
I am sure the same goes for Kessler and I don't think either he or Dirrell are going to come to Montreal in their 1st fight back.
Like you said, it will be Mendy next, and then Curtis Stevens (who was embarrassed by Brinkley) to close out the year in grand Berto...whoops I mean Bute... fashion.Comment

I dont know what to think of Dirrell TBH. He tweeted that he was back in he gym some time ago, and now you say that he's still injured.I have it on good word that Dirrell won't even attempt to resume boxing activities until March-April of next year.

That said a fight with Dirrell is a bad match-up for Bute. He will never take that fight. He only wants easy-to-hit face-first fighters that he can look good against. Magee fits the bill perfectly.
As for Kessler I dont think he'd have any problem by travelling to Montreal. He has shown that willingness many times in the past. To much for his own good actually.Comment

He did go back to the gym to help out his brother in training for a fight but that's when he noticed something was wrong.
People on here were saying he would be fighting by March, I'm just saying that isn't the case. If he does fight again it probably won't be until Aug or Sept at which point he will have been out of the ring for nearly a year and a half.
His brother is most likely going to be fighting on the Alexander-Bradley undercard. I was hoping to have a chance to talk to Andre there and get down low on his condition but it looks like I will be moving to Texas for work in early January and won't be able to make it to the fight.Comment

Well I hope your man Andre makes a full recovery but maybe he'd be wise to call it a day.He did go back to the gym to help out his brother in training for a fight but that's when he noticed something was wrong.

Magee's decent.
Certainly a good European-level fighter. I'd be very surprised if Bute could stop him easily. I doubt it.Comment

I'll try to make a case for Bute here:Magee is a pretty good fighter and the win over Larsen on Larsens hometurf was a very good although Larsen had an elbow injury. Bute surely cleans out the division.
Kessler: He turned him down right after he beat Berrio (in 2007). At the time, Bute had something like 19 fights. His trainer and his promoter were open about it. They were not fighting Kessler at that time because Bute wasn't experienced enough and not yet in his prime. They said he needed 2 more fights. The problem for them is that Bute got a shot at a belt earlier than they had expected, and wasn't quite ready for the very best in the division.
Froch: They were in discussion just before the S6 was announced. Bute didn't even know there was discussions to make a tourney (as per Ken Hershman). Bute had unfinished business eith Andrade (remember the Andrade I 12th round?) so he wanted to fight him again to clear things out. And Andrade was his mandatory. But since Froch was already having discussions to enter the S6, I feel like the Bute negociations were only a plan B for him.
Pascal: Lets look at the chronology of the events. Pascal beats Dawson August 14th. After the fight, Pascal calls Bute out. But at that time, Bute had already signed to fight Brinkley. Bute beats Brinkley on October 15th. But Pascal hadalready signed to fight Hopkins. And Pascal has to give Dawson a rematch next. I can't see exactly when the fight could've happened. Plus Bute's team said that if they were to move up to 175, it was for good. Bute's goal is to get in the HOF one day. If he moves up to LHW now, he hasn't done anything of significance at SMW, and it is hard to get to the HOF if you only dominated in 1 division.Comment
