I think the problem here is that you guys are just seriously underestimating lamont peterson.

He belongs among the top of the division with the names mentioned above. His lone defeat came to the hands of the man who is regarded as number ONE in th division and he more than held his own. His body work actually began to seriously hinder Bradley, then bradley finished off boxing from the outside to change the tempo.

Lamont is the best fighter ortiz has fought, actually. I just think people have a bad impression of the man for whatever reason and consider this an upset of some sort.

I personally thought he was going to beat ortiz fairly easy, and posted i numerous times. He's heavily slept on.

        marcos took his heart.....

now he wants to become a slick fighter it wont happenn!!!!!

ortiz is more a brawler than a boxer, its hard to change that.. you can modify it.. but once they start trading bombs.. is gonna become a street fight... and ortiz doesnt have a street fighter heart anymore.... brandon want some shine for his own... and he picked ortiz to gain it.....

this is gonna be fun.. TOP RANK VS GOLDEN BOY......!! make it happen..

yep. loses to bradley by wide margin. close fight with khan.

Rematch with Peterson and fight smarter?
who the **** wants to watch that?

Grudge match with Rios, which he will probably win (although I am not 100% sure about that anymore either)?
          arum won't make this fight.

New trainer to revive his career?
          definitely

Maidana ruined him. Ortiz is negating one of his biggest assets by fighting in such a cautious way and that's his power. In the Peterson fight whenever he came forward and imposed himself it looked as if Peterson couldn't handle his power but then Ortiz would back off and start doing laps around the ring for no reason. Otiz could have easily won the fight by KO but he just doesn't want to get hit or get into heated exchanges because his heart is just not there.

Disagree on all accounts. Peterson is not the best he's fought, Maidana is. Peterson isn't even better than Ortiz, that's why everybody is scratching their head. Ortiz just didn't want to win enough so a fighter that he should have beat ended in a draw.

I, like you, never believed he had the heart either.

Ortiz just doesn't have what it takes to be a good fighter. It's something he has done a long time and put a lot of time into, but he's just not very good at it, he is missing too many vital qualities.

Alexis Arguello was one of the most humane boxers I have ever watched. One of the greatest fights in history was Arguello/Ray Mancini. After the fight, Arguello said he never wanted to fight him again because "I had to turn myself into a beast to beat him, and I had to fight him in a way that I don't want to fight anyone."

He lacked a killer instinct but he was such a good boxer that it was ok, he could beat you with boxing skills alone, whereas a guy like Tyson needed to act on killer instinct, be relentless, hurt you and then hurt you more until you were down.

Ortiz has no killer instinct, and he also lacks the skills necessary to finish opponents off handily.

He has no heart either, and he showed then when he threw his gloves up and walked to his corner against Maidana.

He was a good prospect coming up, but nothing more. He was exposed by Maidana to not be able to take a punch and was lacking heart to fight back when in trouble, and was again exposed by Peterson on Saturday that he can not overcome even a C rated fighter. Peterson was matched up with Ortiz because it should have been an easy fight.

It really makes no difference to me where Ortiz goes from here but if I were his adviser I would tell him to get serious, train way harder so you can be in condition to go 12 rounds, and start hurting people in the ring. If not, nobody is going to pay to watch you fight.

peterson who is a ko for most 140's lol when has lamont ever been ko'd ? both petersons have big potential but lamont is a far better fighter than people give him credit for, i suggest all those in doubt of his ability and heart to check both fighters weight prior to the fight (peterson vs ortiz) not to mention he took the fight on short notice.
