I think when you have this close a fight, you gotta give it the guy who is pressing the action and making the fight. Mares was making the fight. Yes, it was close but I think Mares deserved the close decision (I had it 114-112 for Mares).

Now, after having said that, I love how Vic complained that the ref wouldn't let him 'cheat'. It is not allowed to stick your arm out and leave it out there and measure your opponent. And Vic complained that the ref wouldn't let him fight his fight and referenced the sticking out of the arm. Yes, the ref did kinda suck but he was right on that point and right about some low blows being the result of Vic pulling Mares head down. Personally, I think 118 lbs is too big a weight for him and if Vic loses to Perez in the consolation bout, then I think he should move down or possibly retire....

When a punch lands (even a glancing blow off the shoulder) and the other fighter goes down, it is a knockdown. Plus, the ref doesn't have the option of instant replay and/or slowing it down. In real time, Mares threw a punch and Vic went down. Did it land? Hard to say but it looked like it just might have knicked him. If that's the case, it's a knockdown....
