I don't really understand it. Let's look at MMA for a second. Brock Lesnar is more popular than Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana can ever dream of being combined. Brock Lesnar has secured 4 1M+ PPV buy events for the UFC. Brock Lesnar is a heavyweight. MMA, as a whole, is more popular than boxing in America.

Brock Lesnar's pay for his last fight? 400K
Amir "Who?" Khan's pay for a title defense at 140 lbs. against an unknown Argentine crude puncher? 925K
How much is that Argentine puncher making? 550K

And then we go through 8 of 12 months in a year with absolutely no fights because HBO's already spent their entire budget for the year.

MMA is not more popular than boxing

and i think 400k is great money for Lesnar considering the guy has only been fighting (for real) for a few years

Amir has been boxing his whole life doesn't he deserve more i think so

Maidana has faced really fast fighters before ones with better chins.

i would only assume regarding boxing, promoter/network dumps huge $$ on main event... and completely ****s on undercards...

ufc tends to stack the entire card with big names.... so maybe the pot gets spread too thin???

i know a few guys from american top team, they make good money... but not like khan money. LOL.

but seriously, $150k for vic???? wowsers... he was supposed to be the next golden boy. hahaha

thats the funny part of it... at the moment, MMA is bigger than boxing in many regards.... but it doesnt pull money like boxing. MMA relies on a solid stacked card to get its money... boxing only needs 1 big name to pull in millions... its CRAZY, the undercards could be complete crap, but it STILL brings in money. plus all the high rollers in vegas LOVE boxing. plus, all the celebs that bring attention to high-profile boxing matches. media eats up boxing. tradition is TOO strong.

Who outside of Manny or Floyd can even pull in 400K American PPV buys?

Who outside of Manny, Floyd, Cotto can pull in 10K in attendance?

i think i heard Khan is getting £500k+ from UK tv, which is $800k+. so Khan's earning $1.8m+

Maidana's getting $550k, plus GBP are giving him an extra $75k. And if he wins he gets a bonus of around $175k I believe. So Maidana will get $800k+ if he wins.

I think this is a fair split of the money considering Khan is the champion with 2 title defenses, where as Maidana is only an interim champ and is not well known to casual fans. Khan is the draw in this fight.

Surprised Ortiz is only getting $150k, thought he'd be getting at least $300k. Damn, that loss to Maidana has really dented his earnings.
whats drawing me to watch this fight is the hope that maidana will knock khan out and never will we have to hear about his damn twitters
