I can give you Tyson's opinion.

@miketyson on Stallone: 'You know how many fighters he inspired from that movie? He contributed (to boxing) more than some champions did.'

I was puzzled by it too, I mean don’t get me wrong I loved the Rocky flicks but let’s separate fantasy from reality.

I know and with a record of 57-23-1 and 51 KO's, he was blatantly a journeyman fighter. Maybe next time someone from this forum will be inducted into the HOF for their post count.

yeah the guy who wrote and was the star of the most iconic boxing film of all time!

Sorry I thought it made perfect sense since you know the film won an Oscar and has only been watched by every boxing fan who existed since the late 70's but oh yeah he has no reason to be in the Boxing HOF.

I suppose he did a lot to promote boxing with those films.

I can't believe I agree with you on something.

                You are 100% correct.

The boxing HOF is filled with sportswriters, broadcasters, promoters, etc...who contributed to the sport in the "Non-Participant" and "Observers" section.

Stallone would be another one. Granted, most or all of those actually covered the sport and wrote on boxing for magazines/newspapers, but Stallone's impact on boxing is undeniable. Budd Schulberg edited boxing for Sports Illustrated, but my guess is that the main reason he got inducted is because of his fictional boxing book The Harder They Fall, and his fictional screenplay On the Waterfront.

Well then it's not unprecedented that people get into Canastota for their works of fiction about boxing. He's getting in because he wrote the screenplays, not for his acting.
