Not only that, but HBO put up more money for the fight to be in the US. I remember a Dan Rafael article detailing the difference of the money HBO was giving for the fight live in the US, live from the UK, or tape delayed from the UK.its cause the fights in vegas ... they dont care if its sold out anyways. they get the site fee. it made more sense for this fight to have been in nyc. khan paulie was sold out, and it was obvious khan had a lot of supporters. it could have been made into his backyard of sorts and build from there ... but vegas puts up more $$$ so its hard to compete or do whats best for the fighter and the sport
Who knew promoters would choose short term money over the long term
.
I certainly didn't expect Khan-Maidana to sell out. Ricky Hatton had a bigger following and his fights weren't that well attended when he started fighting in the US. We have short term memory, but just look at the crowds for the Collazo and Urango fights?
It was until the Castillo fight, where he had a solid attendance. This fight had similar hype to the Castillo fight, but I'm guessing Khan needs to prove himself against Maidana before getting the bandwagon fans back on. Watch a Bradley/Alexander fight be packed.Comment

this is deceiving because the Malignaggi fight was at the 4500 seat theater and this fight is at the 12k seat Mandalay Bayits cause the fights in vegas ... they dont care if its sold out anyways. they get the site fee. it made more sense for this fight to have been in nyc. khan paulie was sold out, and it was obvious khan had a lot of supporters. it could have been made into his backyard of sorts and build from there ... but vegas puts up more $$$ so its hard to compete or do whats best for the fighter and the sportComment

Yea, I was getting ready to say. Paulie is from NYC and couldn't even generate enough interest to have the bout fought in the main arena so it's no shock that a even less popular fighter in Maidana could possibly bring in more (unless we're talking about differences in ticket prices and/or what's offered on the undercard).Comment
