Comments Thread For: No KO For Canelo: Latest Win Lacks Recent Explosiveness

By Jake Donovan - Saul Alvarez was forced to go the distance for just the second time in his past 13 contests, but still did more than enough to take a near-shutout win over former 140 lb titlist Lovemore N’Dou in their 12-round main event Saturday evening in Veracruz, Mexico.

The bout wasn’t anywhere close to the explosive performance Alvarez delivered against former lineal welterweight king Carlos Baldomir less than three months ago, but was enough to get the job done here and keep the capacity crowd of 20,000 or so pleased with the final outcome.

What remains to be seen is how pleased were the stateside network brass; the bout served as Alvarez’ debut on HBO Latino in a same day capacity (the bout was tape-delayed one hour), while also airing on Televisa in his native Mexico. [Click Here To Read More]

ummm im sorry but why does boxiiiingscene knock a 20 year old kids performance whos very promising and obviously a big draw and potential world champ? while praising manroid -no -blood-testiaou for beating a bunch of recycled, old washed up dudes ?,and frankly refusing to face the best IN EVERY WEiGHT CLASS? we live in a world where everything is backwards nowadays.

Hes not Valero, hes not gunna KO everyone. His counter punching ability was good.

Alvarez defence worrys me, i know hes very young but he got hit on the chin clearly by ndou. If it was a semi strong or power punches those could of been a KO or hurt Saul very bad.

            good performence tho

nice to see him draw big crowds, shame other great fighters dont get the same attention.

At some point, his age has to stop being used as a crutch in debates.

His age never came up when he flattened Baldomir a couple of months ago. Yet whenever he struggles, it's "He's still growing, cut him some slack." Can't have it both ways.

That said, I fully acknowledge that he did what he had to do in order to get the win here. But it's not a stretch to say that the fight wasn't exciting, nor did he look particularly sharp for much of it. He did enough to win by a wide margin. That's his reward.

So... calm down, take a deep breath and enjoy the victory.

You're right. They should just say "oh he KO's guys because he's just 20"

It makes no sense to give excuses when you did your job
