Also, Malinga in 92 and Wharton in 94 were at their best (and were legit tough opponents, just ask Nigel Benn!). Essett was in the opposite semi-final to Eubank at the 1984 US National Golden Gloves, Eubank was robbed against a hometown favourite that Essett then stopped in the final. So Essett was pretty good, former NABF champion who beat DeWitt, Sims etc!

By the way PP, how do you know about Calzaghe winning ABA's in 91, 92 and 93 at three different weights? Only I'm supposed to know that ****.

This is the latest from the Sky Sports website:

FRANK FACING A FIGHT TO KEEP HATTON

                    Friday 26th August 2005

Frank Warren faces a fight to keep hold of Ricky Hatton.
Reports suggest that the undisputed light-welterweight champion is wanted by a number of leading American promoters following his sensational success over Kostya Tszyu in June.

The victory was shown live in the States and has catapulted Hatton into the spotlight on the other side of the Atlantic at a time when his contract with Warren's Sports Network is up for renewal.

Britain's leading promoter has taken care of the 26-year-old Mancunian since he turned professional eight years ago and remains confident that he will retain his promotional rights having secured the dream date with Tszyu in Manchester.

"As far as Sports Network are concerned we have a binding agreement with Ricky Hatton, which we expect will be honoured and we look forward to continue our successful relationship together," said a statement on frankwarren.tv.

But as soon as he beat Tszyu, Hatton made no bones about wanting to fight big-name opponents in the States, where Warren does not carry the same clout.

And the news that he has not yet re-signed will not have gone unnoticed by the likes of Bob Arum, Gary Shaw, and Lou diBella, who has taken Jermain Taylor to the top of the pile following his victory over Bernard Hopkins.

Hatton insists he is a free agent and, it seems, can his have pick of the US promoters if he decides to leave the Sports Network stable - although his choice of opponents for his next bout may not be so lucrative.

The Hitman wants WBC champ Floyd Mayweather, but with the Pretty Boy intent on trying to win six world titles at different weights, he has already been making noises about stepping up to face welterweight king Zab Judah or even middlweight maestro Ronald 'Winky' Wright.

WBO champ Miguel Cotto is also an option, but he is struggling to make the 140lb limit and has to defend against Gianluca Branco in September.

That leaves newly-crowend WBA titlist Carlos Maussa as the obvious choice, following his surprise win over Vivian Harris in June.

The Colombian's unorthodox style shocked champion Harris, but his windmill punching and wild lunges are unlikely to pose Hatton problems, although a fight with him will be the least lucrative.

Interesting stuff on Lacy calzaghe and also hatton maussa.
Whilst reading these articles i really wish that Frank Warren had an account on this site or something. WE could do Franks Questions threads! Haha.
