I like what I have heard from Andre Ward when he speaks. He seems like a very educated guy.

But if we're talking about booksmarts, is there any boxer with some type of engineering degree? PHD's and lawyers really don't make you a genius, sorry. The toughest degrees are engineering degrees.

I disagree with people who think that Floyd Mayweather is not intelligent. Look at his marketing genious. Do you really think that Floyd is this money hungry thug that he betrays himself to be? When he was humble and somewhat of a quiet guy in the early stages of his career, who really cared about him?He wasn't selling out venues nor was he putting up big ppv ratings.(Actually, he wasn't a ppv type fighter.)When he took on that villian role, that's when he became famous. Here's a sad but truthful fact. Black fighters are not marketable today in boxing. They will never sell out arenas just off of their pure skills. If so, Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander and Berto would be as big as Khan or Pacquiao. Unless a black fighter is flamboyant, or just a hell raiser that's in and out of trouble with the law, the public will not acknowledge him. Floyd and his people realized that and made that change. Now, he is the cash cow of boxing. That's highly intelligent!

I read so many bullshit in this thread about Floyd but I just ignored it. I read some one say Hopkins lives a clean life blah blah unlike Floyd. Lol Floyd doesn't drink alcohol. When people say they see him at clubs, they say he has a bottle of water with him at all times. The guy is about as much as health freak as Hopkins.

Floyd is not dumb, but not that intelligent either. All that Floyd villain character talk is overrated.

That's the real him, he's been holding it back for years before he unleashed it. Back in the day, he used to be what Chad Dawson is today, a stuttering shy guy who went in and took care of business. People advised him to keep his mouth shut and just smile and they will turn him into a superstar. It didn't work and he realized it, freed himself of Arum and unleashed the real Floyd with a little Over the Top sauce.

I mean for christ sakes, he cried at a press-conference because he was criticized and threatened to retire, how smart is that? Obviously he didn't retire but he thought about it, until he realized he needed and wanted to get some more of that money.

Other than the Klitschkos, no boxer strike me as a highly intelligent person. There are some boxers that are very well versed (in boxing) but I'm not sure they are actually book smart.

Also Floyd claims to not study tapes of opponents, ever. How smart is that?

The U.S. General doesn't just attack randomly because he knows he's got the greatest fighting force with the best weapons, he still studies, plans strategically.

It's dumb arrogance, but arrogance he's been getting away with like RJJ's been getting away with in his prime, playing basketball on the day of a fight (what if he injured his ankles).

But lets not trash Floyd completely, perhaps it is smart that he decided not to let anybody film any of his sparring sessions anymore. Clearly he feels that opponents could pick up on things, so all he shows the public is repetitive mitts sessions with Uncle Rog. I'm pretty sure he mixes it up and does things in training we don't see on camera.

boxing IQ anyone who says a boxer other than floyd mayweather dont know **** about the sport.. and thats the most honest statement ive ever made.

when it comes to fighting in the ring floyd is the smartest. the thing that amazes me about floyd isnt his speed or footwork its his ability to adjust on the fly. not go back and have his trainers tell him something. he adjust between punches. its amazing how manny times ive seen him switch up and lay traps and break his opponents down. as a boxer myself its so much more exciting than seeing a guy jsut throw punch after punch over and over hitting standing targets.

what floyd does in the ring cant nobody do. his defense he displays in the middle of the ring or off the ropes is amazing. the way he just breaks guys down so subtle that dumbasses that dont know any better think these top athletes just got tired in 3 4 rounds lol floyd is smart in the ring its crazy. other top boxer take rounds to adjust and break guys down floyd do it between punches

bhop is smart but he goes over tape and studies his opponent but it takes time for him to set it up in the ring. floyd dont study he jsut goes in there and adjust on the fly to opponents. the way he goes from pressing the action in fight to making someone come to him in another to fight on inside or fight on outside.

hands down not even close floyd is the smartest boxer in the game
