Man, I'm pullin for Cotto, but that's a touugghhh fight for him. But I think this also would be a switch for Martinez who will fight a guy who's a more compact fighter and has snappier punches in comparison to Williams or any other guys he's fought recently. I don't know how dropping to 155 will affect Martinez being he weighed 157.5 for the 157 catchweight for Williams. Cotto I believe would make maybe 154 and would prob be 160 night of the fight where Martinez may be 169-170.

Interesting fight nonetheless. Me being a Cotto fan, I still would favor Martinez based on style and size.

      His slickness?

Oh you mean when he practices slipping punches after they already land?

marg cheated and it wore him down. Manny is...Manny. you're gonna get punched against him. im talking when he focused on the body, and outboxed sugar. everytime, everyfight he surprises people with his boxing skills. pretty good counter puncher as well.

edit: oh yeah, cotto has a great jab, and will take martinez out of his game (especially since he likes to hold his hands low). Cotto will pop him quite a few times in the dome with it, martinez will bring up his gloves, and down to the body cotto goes, mixing in uppercuts and a hook.

Considering Mosley has problems against boxers, it's not that far fetched.

          But he's not THAT slick....

Hell, even when Foreman let his hands go he was landing flush everytime he punched...

Clottey landed every punch he threw too..

It also doesnt matter if Marg may of had loaded gloves or not... it doesnt take away from the punches landing in the first place.

I love Cotto man, I root for him in every fight... but lets not get carried away with his "slickness"

You must be under the impression Martinez just stands there and lets you tee off on him...

            Cotto isn't 6'3" with an 84" reach...

Martinez has better footwork, a longer reach, and faster hands... better head movement, more power, and he actually IS slick...

Cotto does have a good jab, but his timing is even better...

But he wont just be teeing off on Martinez... it's not going to go down like that.

Martinez will keep his distance, and strike when he wants too..

Cotto is a plodder, fights flatfooted... Martinez dances around the ring...

It's not gonna go down like you said it will.

i didnt mean he was that slick, martinez is slicker, but simply that cotto is slick. i mean, clottey landed every punch he threw on pac too, that doesnt really mean anything. i think its possible for cotto to outbox martinez. martinez is a counterer, so cotto needs to get him out of that, and i think he can. a great jab starts it, martinez trys to counter, and cotto counters him.

Martinez isn't just a counterpuncher, though.

He played that role against Paul Williams because Williams throws 110 punches a round... so martinez played counter puncher in that fight...

Against Pavlik, he countered at times... but more or less, he kept his distance... because unlike Williams... Both Pavlik and Cotto fight flatfooted, and they plod towards you... So Martinez just used his footwork to stay away from Pavlik, and then would come in with a 4-5punch combination, and then get back out of the way...

He will do the same to Cotto.

Now I will give Cotto more credit than Pavlik, because Cotto has faster hands and better timing than Pavlik... but it doesnt take away from the fact that he fights flat footed and Martinez moves constantly...

Add on to a 3" height advantage, a nice reach advantage, faster hand speed, southpaw stance...

Cotto is going to look confused in this fight, trying to get to Martinez, but he won't be able too...

He will have his moments where he traps Martinez in the corner for a second, he may land a few punches, but Martinez will quickly rotate out of that..

Also Martinez' ability to slip punches is better than anything Cotto does on the defensive end...

Like I said, this isn't disrespect to Cotto, as I think he is a very good fighter, and against the right style he is extremely effective... but against someone who has all the features of Martinez... this is an uphill battle for Cotto.

I hope this happens. I'm a fan of both fighters and would love to see them fight. I give a slight edge to Sergio but it will be a competitive fight and I could see Cotto pulling off the upset.

To be frank, as Ricardo Mayorga would say, "Miguel Cotto is garbage" lol, he just has a win over an old Mosely, and suffered defeat from a one dimensional boxer Antonio Margarito.
