Comments Thread For: Arum: Martinez at 155? Pacquiao is Great, Not Superman

According to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, there is no way, under any circumstances, that he will consider a making a fight between Manny Pacquiao and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, at a catch-weight of 155-pounds or otherwise. Arum has a short-list of opponents for Pacquiao's next fight, which includes WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, three division champion Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

It's a bad style match up. If he was old and washed up bob would have made that fight.

I agree tha Martinez would have around 25 pounds over Manny on fight night, but I really believe that Manny could pull it off. If he goes and beats Martinez, he should be know as the greatest fighter that ever lived.

Arum: "Having my guy, who has a belt at 154, fight Martinez at 154 is crazy; what, you think my guy is Superman?"

Didn't Pac just fight for the belt Martinez vacated??

              BS excuses Arum, total BS.

Poor Martinez man, the boxing world must have pissed its pants after seeing that KO.

I'm not saying Pac HAS to fight Martinez, but comon Mosely?? Shouldn't Pac be fighting someone who atleast is coming off a win?

If Martinez didn't knock Paul Williams The F'uck Out then Arum may have at least thought of the possibility of the fight happening. But it is too risky to put Manny in with a guy like Martinez who is a quick and mobile version of Margarito. That is just asking for trouble.

But I don't know if Martinez will be able to take the amount of punishment Margo took and he may have a chance at a TKO. But a 25 lb weight advantage just sounds ridiculous.

I really see this fight happening a year from now. I think Martinez faces Cotto and Cotto puts up a good enough fight that it will tempt Top Rank and Team Pacquiao into taking this fight. After Manny dominates Shane, and a fight with Floyd falls through...then there really isn't anyone left for Manny.
