Court holds back $1.5 M of Pacman’s winnings

CALIFORNIA - A Texas court issued a temporary restraining order on a portion of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao’s winnings from his most recent fight, after a Filipino promoter sued the boxer for over $1.18 million in damages, reports www.fightlawyerblog.com.

In his complaint, Filipino promoter Edmundo Lozano of Imperial Ed promotions claimed that Pacquiao entered into a written contract with his company to make a number of social and promotional appearances in McAllen, Texas last September.

Lozano alleged that in exchange for his appearances, Pacquiao was paid $100,000, which was reportedly wired to Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee.

Court documents show that Pacquiao signed the contract in General Santos City, Philippines.

During Pacquiao’s promotional tour in Dallas before his most recent fight, trainer Freddie Roach reportedly told another member of the Imperial team that the boxer cannot make it to Lozano’s event, as it conflicted with training.

Lozano had sent Pacquiao a demand letter.

The court ordered that $1.5 million of Pacquiao’s winnings from his fight with Antonio Margarito be held back, as it deliberates on the case.

Nothing new.. Obviously another case of trying to sue someone for money. We've seen this before.. It comes with the territory of success.

1 million is indeed too much.

Nonetheless, i hope Pac actually learns something from this in that he shouldn't sign documents without thoroughly considering the consequences.

This seems to be one of his major flaws in that when presented with a lot of money, he'd sign documents without careful thought. (such as the album thing and the golden boy contract).

You don't understand the way law suites work. The guy lost much more than 100,000 if Pac didn't show up, that was just Pac's fee.

I'm sure he had many people there hoping for Pac to show up, do promotions, cost for the set up, etc.....

I don't know if the damages are 1.8 million but I'm positive they are much more than 100,000.

              Yep.

Damages, loss of potential revenue, the negative impact on the party that promised the presence of Pac in an event etc etc....
