AA is a guy I used to really really dislike, but now I'm actually feeling sorry for the guy. He has all the tools, but he doesn't know how to utilize it. I mean, Tyson is one of his favorites fighters, and it's a bit ironic that while AA has zero upperbody movement, Tyson had great head/ upperbody movement. There were many opportunities where Abraham could have slipped Froch's jab and thrown a counter right over the top, but that style of his has really messed him up. It's like his body is automatically engineered to go into a shell once his opponents throw.
Probably because his chin is overrated like Clottey's is, remember when Clottey opened up and Cotto knocked him down with a jab!
I don't even think Cotto/Clottey would have been as close as it was if it weren't for Cotto's nasty cut that seemed to bother him a bit but he didn't want to quit the fight.
There's a reason why fighters like Abraham and Clottey cover up all the time, its because they don't like to take punches.
Former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham told BILD that he’s just not a super middleweight. “The others are simply larger. I’m always the smallest,” he stated. King Arthur added that he will still be challenging Andre Ward for the WBA super middleweight title in the Super Six semi-final and will remain with trainer Uli Wegner.
I think that he needs to change his trainer. Abraham has shown very little ability to properly gameplan for his bouts and a greater inability to adjust to his opponent's attack in fights. A trainer is there to fix those holes and Wegner has done a VERY POOR JOB.
At 5'10" with that kind of style, you are too small for SMW.
Let's say Martinez, who is also 5'10" he would also be a short SMW, but his style will be a plus against Froch, Kessler, Green, Johnson, and maybe even Dirrell, I doubt he beats Ward and Dirrell though.
But you see Abraham's height and style, i'd only give him a shot against Green, Johnson and maybe Kessler.
There are guys he can beat at 168. He entered a tourney with the division's best and came up against two guys who had what it took to beat him is all (and he might have caught up to one of those if he hadn't thrown the DQ shot).
He's no smaller than Jeff Lacy, a SMW titlist, but is more durable and has more ability. He just needs to make some adjustments to his style and keep working at the weight.
Real talk from Abraham. And this talk isn't new, because he has said in past interviews he would like to go back to MW to get his titles. I'm not giving up on him, and hopefully the King regains his throne at 160 or 168 in the near future.
while AA gives up the height and reach advantage to most 168 lbers, he can improve if he employs more head movement and better foot movement. he absolutely needs a new trainer.
He's broad as a truck and has bigger legs than Carl Froch.
Yes which serves him good for power and a couple of things but isn't all good.
He isn't all that flexible, not the quickest mover, no range, can't get particularly good angles or reflexes. He's a pretty compact boxer un-less he just flies crazy wide looping shots which isn't good enough.

He's like a little pit-bull.
He wasn't all that flexible or the quickest mover at MW, either (Pavlik, his main rival there and whom he was tipped to unify with, was a taller, longer guy, too).
He is what he is, but he can certainly compete at SMW. He just will likely always fall short against some of the other top guys around him at the weight if he doesn't find a way to adjust his style.
Blaming his size is just his way of rationalizing the loss, but I'd be surprised if he can go back to 160. He's grown into a SMW.
