Yes, Katsidis was not throwing back (until, oddly enough, the very last exchange before the fight was stopped), but was still moving. Bayless should have at least waited until he was knocked down. He was taking major punishment but had not as yet shown signs of getting really staggered or rocked. The round was near it's end, and I think Katsidis would have survived (although he would likely have been stopped in the next round). Still, the distinction is important, he deserved the chance given the magnitude of the bout.
katsidis is one of those fighters that you have to protect from themselves.

the stoppage is subjective, katsidis probably was trying to recover but he was gettin hit with every shot jmm threw so that wasnt gonna help recover, respect for Katsidis, a true warrior.

Perfect stoppage.. Kats was done and nearing the end of the road... marquez batters opponants not really crushing ko power kats would have just been a punching bag.

I seriously question the brains of some of you who say it was way too early

Personally, and call me soft, but I think that would have been heartbreaking and not something I'd enjoy seeing at all, considering what Mike had gone through and everything he gave in there tonight.

He's a quality individual and tonight, I don't care, he just deserved to finish on his feet...and to maybe have a little bit of his career saved.
i'm not hating on the guy nor am i callous, but that is a part of boxing. there are some fighters who would prefer going out on their shields and katsidis seemed disappointed in the ref's decision to step in when he did. his corner also had the option to throw in the towel at any point.

I hear that...I like a closed show, too.

But just for tonight, I was glad to see Mike stopped that way if he was going out.
