The reason I think everyone heate SRL is b/c he beat the guys that you guys liked in a style that you guys don't like. He's not a brawler ppl, pls understand that. He's a boxer, a chess player, he's smart. Just b/c he doesn't brawl doesn't mean at all that he's a *****, as far as I'm concerned if you step into that ring where theirs a chance of you dying, your no *****. Dislike the man all you want but give him the respect he deserves, he was a great fighter, a great champion and came along when boxing needed him and as far as ducking fighters, cmon who doesn't duck nowadays, PBF is ducking Zab or which ever it is, i don't even know whats going on their, RJJ supposly ducked fighters etc. Yeah ducking fighters isn't cool but hey what you gonna do. SRL is still IMHO one of the greatest fighter to step intot he ring but thats just me.

If Pryor wanted him he could have moved to 147lbs. and became a mandatory. If Leonard beat Pryor haters would have still hated..

Leonard would have beat prior. His defense was excellent and handspeed subperb. AAron Pryor was great, dont get me wrong. But SRL was on another level as far as his skills in the ring: As well as opposition faced. Pryor fought alot of bums to pad his record.

but he ducked everyone...he would fight them because if he didn't he would look like a little *****...we all know in his heart he wanted nothing to do with a prime duran, hearns and Hagler...


Hagler was SOOOOO ****in old in that fight, he was even past his prime before he fought Hearns...

Ali does not have a 1 punch knockout and a lot of people considered him one of the greatest if not the greatest. Even you are cynical bastard, It's hard not to appreciate Leonard boxing repertoires, his footwork his speed and his combinations. He showed his heart when he went toe to toe with Duran in the first fight fighting Duran's way and when he return the favor Duran quit. He also beat Benitez, beat Kalule , Hearns and Hagler even though it's controversial and I think that's pretty impressive resume. He also fought and beat then unbeaten Marcos Geraldo and that dude was much bigger and stronger than him. A lot of people bash him because he did not gave Hearns immediate rematch but people forget Leonard right eye detach retina and retired temporarily and Hearns moved.

hey i appreciate leonards skills and consider him one of the best.but truelly believe his greatness is overblown period.i previously went into some details why i think that.and i stated i could be predjidus.

a little known fact/fiction i read in a boxing mag in the '80s and have read it several years ago.

the reason why duran did the "no mas" according to someone in his camp was because he **** his pants after ray tagged him.he had gone out after weigh in or before the fight and ate a huge multible steak supper and wasnt cleaned out before the fight(most fighters clean themselfs out before bouts). sorry if this is more than you want to know.

I believe that much of the hate Sugar Ray Leonard has endured throughout his career, stems from pure envy and jealousy. Most people erroneously believe that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, which is simply not true.

Ray had paid his dues early on as a youngster, to become the great legend he is today. At the age of 14 he had sacrificed a whole lot, including his youth for greatness.

In addition, he had over 200 amateur and professional prize bouts combined. It is a testament to his tremendous will, determination and fortitude on why he has accomplished as much as he has in his professional boxing career.

One last observation, it really baffles me, the level of hostility he receives because he doesn't have an ego. He has always been a very humbled, quiet and soft-spoken individual; Unlike many other loud-mouths in this profession.

I don't think leonard was afraid of pryor hearns and hagler and duran were all more dangerous fight espcially hagler as leonard has layed off for so long (i had hagler win though)

no he was not a sissy puncher he Ko'd hearns stepped up to middle to fight hagler at a weight he had never fought at before. Just because a fighter hasn't been able to one punch Ko someone makes them a sissy puncher? you ******, Ali didn't Ko people with one punch neither does pacquaio he win though combinations and constant pressure speed and power. boxers like Ernie Shavers and Tommy Morrison could KO people with one punch but does that make them better than Ali? evidently not in the case of Shavers hell Tommy Morrison woulda got murdered by ali they he was a good/average fighters not a great ones one punch KO's don't amke you a great fighters

The last word in the above quotation is either a clever play on words (Leonard's first name) or a gross misspelling of the word "reign." Which is it?
