    2. yes, he was a ***** puncher. there was not a single person who was KOd by leonard with one punch, or in the early of the fight with deadly force. people wouldve dodged leonard left and right if he had hearns' power. name one iron-chinned badass that leonard KOd.... no? 'nuf said.

This is exactly how people overrate Pryor. They act as if he was a serious threat to take out Ray Leonard, who stepped into the ring with three of the most dangerous fighters in the sport ever. Sorry kid, but if you're honestly sitting here thinking that a smaller man in Pryor, who struggled with a past his prime former FEATHERWEIGHT, was going to beat Leonard then you're crazy. Everyone has seen the footage of Ray blowing off Pryor and got to see the disgust on Pryors face as he was overlooked. Ray had bigger fish to fry.

Wilfred Benitez had a pretty damned solid chin in his younger years and was a defensive WIZARD. The man was rarely hit clean and had a good chin while he still gave half a **** about boxing. Ray Leonard knocked him out, which is a pretty impressive knockout.

Who gives a **** if Ray Leonard didn't have 1 punch knockout power anyway? Is one punch knockout power the definition of a good puncher? I was always under the impression that a good puncher was sharp, quick, accurate, and could take his man out in a matter of time with his punches. Ray Leonard at lower weights was a good overall puncher.

That's why I didn't like him. He could have been more respected even if he had suffered a couple more losses by going toe to toe.

He ruined alot of potentially good fights by dancing all around the ring the last 30 seconds of every round.

They should have put him and Hagler in a phone booth. Ray would have been hamburger.

Hearns beat his ass the second fight. Two knockdowns and Ray gets a draw. Give me a break

I guess he had to sell more 7-Up.

yeah he was a sissy huh i cant remember was it him that quit in the rematch with duran? oh no thats right he made duran quit. also you people hating leoanrd are idiots. yeah he ducked pryor yet he moved up to super middleweight huh ****? he couldnt punch for ****? he ktfo of donny lalonde at 168. he also had hagler hurt in the 12th round with the unbelievable combos off the ropes. he knocked out hearns. he koed benitez. i mean the list goes on of good fighters that he beat, not to mention how a lot of his knockouts were some of the best kos ever and very devastating. he beat hagler easily. i get so sick of hearing the bull**** that he only fought the last 30 seconds. he just won the round even more at that time. it was either to where hagler was barely winning the round or the round would be even at that point or even to where ray was already ahead, and with that he just insured he would win the rounds even more. also why the **** couldnt hagler beat such a ****ty non pwerful fighter who HAD BEEN RETIRED FOR 5 YEARS AND DIDNT HAVE A TUNE UP? BETTER YET SAY YOU THINK HAGLER BEAT HIM SOMEHOW, WHY DIDNT HE KNOCK HIM OUT DEAD SINCE RAY IS NOTHING, NOT TO MENTION A 5 YEAR LAYOFF. YEAH HE WAS DOWN TO HEARNS IN THE FIRST FIGHT BUT WHO ****ING CARES HE CAME BACK TO WIN AND KNOCKED HIM OUT. HE BEAT THE **** OUT OF BENITEZ FOR THE WHOEL FIGHT AND THEN FINALLY GOT THE KO IN THE 15TH. im not taking anything away from any of these other fighters but ray is clearly the best out of all of them because WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT HE BEAT EVERY ONE OF THEM FAIR AND SQUARE. HES THE BEST WELTERWEIGHT EVER UP TP THIS POINT IN HIS SKILL AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

benitez was stopped in the final 9 seconds of the bout, which was a pretty ****** stoppage.

"bigger fish to fry"? gee, aaron pryor, who is considered as one of the best jr. welterweights of all time, is not considered big fish enough for leonard to fry? dont kid urself. pryor wouldve swarmed leonard and destroyed him. ray knew this. he moved up and got away.

he had refs responsible for his KOs, not his punch. leonard was not a puncher, in any sense of the word.

          1. Theres no ****ing way in hell that he was afraid to step into the ring with a natural 140 pound Aaron Pryor. The 147 pound Tommy Heanrs and even that grizzled form of Hagler that he fought were 1000x scarier/riskier fights than was Pryor. Remember, Leonard is one of the most complete fighters at 147 ever and Pryor had life and death struggles with a way-past-best Arguello and Dajuan Johnson until he knocked them out. Leonard would have beaten Pryor soundly. High risk, low-reward? Maybe...but Pryor was nowhere near the test that Tommy Hearns was at 147.

          2. Leonard wasn't a ***** puncher, he was just smart. He was actually an excellent puncher at 147...evidenced through his knockouts of Dave Green, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez, and and unbeaten Ayub Kalule at 154.
agree with your pryor thoughts. but about the tommy hearns test brought back personal memories. i remember loosing money on hearns loses to leonard so thees thoughts could be predjadis(excuse spelling)but i've always thought that leonard with his loud spitefull mouth backed up by ditsi general public pulled a mohammed ali/foreman and pyched out hearns who was in my books more capable using distants catch and beat the holy fck out of leonard.but hearns looked wierd.didnt use his heighth. didnt use his head.easy for me to say in afterthought.

Ali does not have a 1 punch knockout and a lot of people considered him one of the greatest if not the greatest. Even you are cynical bastard, It's hard not to appreciate Leonard boxing repertoires, his footwork his speed and his combinations. He showed his heart when he went toe to toe with Duran in the first fight fighting Duran's way and when he return the favor Duran quit. He also beat Benitez, beat Kalule , Hearns and Hagler even though it's controversial and I think that's pretty impressive resume. He also fought and beat then unbeaten Marcos Geraldo and that dude was much bigger and stronger than him. A lot of people bash him because he did not gave Hearns immediate rematch but people forget Leonard right eye detach retina and retired temporarily and Hearns moved.

If Pryor wanted him he could have moved to 147lbs. and became a mandatory. If Leonard beat Pryor haters would have still hated..
