Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez: Dmitry Pirog Makes No Sense Right Now

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25KOs) is exploring his options in the wake of his impressive two round knockout of Paul Williams. One of the names being thrown to Martinez is unbeaten Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14KOs), who owns the WBO's version of the middleweight crown.

He is right Pirog needs a couple more solid wins like the one over Jacobs before he deserves a fight with Martinez.

Nah after beating Pavlik and Williams fighting a unknown like Pirog is a step backwards and at his age he needs to start cashing out.

I would like to see him against any of the following

          Paacquaio
          Mayweather
          Williams
          Cotto
          Kirkland
          Angulo
          Pavlik

I would take off Williams,Kirkland(until he gets some quality comeback wins) and Cotto.

surely becoming the P4P champion is about fighting the best opponents not just the most well known or most marketable...case in point....manny fights margarito but there are surely better in the 154 class but because v margarito does better business he fights him and it adds credibility to his p4p claim?

if pirog is a dangerous opponent at 160 then martinez should fight him if he wants to be considered the best in his own class let alone p4p.

dont confuse an aspiration to be the best with an aspiration to be the best known! sadly...if fighters concentrate on taking on and beating the best fighters available they might find it easier to make the name for themselves that they so desperately claim...
