I agree Martinez deserves a big fight after his amazing run this year. He was a virtual unknown not too long ago and now is top 3 p4p. Hes paid his dues and hes not getting any younger. Pirog doesnt deserve the opportunity to fight such an opponent yet.

surely becoming the P4P champion is about fighting the best opponents not just the most well known or most marketable...case in point....manny fights margarito but there are surely better in the 154 class but because v margarito does better business he fights him and it adds credibility to his p4p claim?
if pirog is a dangerous opponent at 160 then martinez should fight him if he wants to be considered the best in his own class let alone p4p.
dont confuse an aspiration to be the best with an aspiration to be the best known! sadly...if fighters concentrate on taking on and beating the best fighters available they might find it easier to make the name for themselves that they so desperately claim...Comment

I remember back as early as 2008 after Martinez defeated Bunema, everybody on this message board was like "Who's this 1 loss Martinez guy? ... Eh, just another Argentine with a padded record who hasn't fought anyone."
What did Martinez do to earn a shot at Pavlik? Draw with Cintron at 154 and lose to Williams at 160? Regardless of which way you think those decisions should have went, Sergio didn't earn anything until he was given a shot at the MW belts by Pavlik.
Sergio should return the favor instead of angling for fights with smaller men. Fights, I might add, that will do nothing to enhance his P4P standing if he wins because he is too damn big to get credit for beating the smaller guys he wants to fight.Comment
