Comments Thread For: Povetkin vs Firtha in Talks For December 18 in Germany?

According to overseas sources, WBO #3, WBA #4 and WBC #9 ranked heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (20-0, 15 KOs) could very well take on NABA and Ohio State champion Nicolai Firtha (19-7-1, 8 KOs) in his next fight. If a deal comes together, the fight would be held on December 18 in Berlin on the undercard to the Marco Huck vs. Denis Lebedev cruiserweight showdown. Firtha has won his last three, against Joseph Rabotte, Mike Sheppard and Tony Grano.

after beating half decent opponemts like Eddie Chambers, Larry Donald, Chris Byrd i dont know why he decided ot fight bums in his last 5 fights. He's 31 now and needs to step to fighting regular top 10/20 fighters, not fighters ranked 123

This better be a stay-sharp fight leading up to a run at a Klitschko. Povetkin is 10 times more legitimate with a way better HW resume than Haye

There's nothing left to wait for. Wlad isn't much older than Povetkin is and Vitali is 40/bound to retire.

I understand fighters realize the Klitschkos are hated champions in the US and anyone who loses to them is accordingly marginalized and blacklisted, so they're in n oparticular hurry to fight them, but there's just nothing left for Povetkin to wait for.

So under the direction of Teddy Atlas, Povetkin is fighting another bum.

Teddy is ruining his confidence, just like he did to Michael Grant.

Nicolas Firtha has been KOed by Tye Fields, and has losses to Nevin Pajkic, Lamar Stephens, Manuel Quezada, and Franklin Lawrence.

In his last fight, Firtha had a MD win over Mike Sheppard, the bum that Denis Boytsov destroyed Friday with four knockdowns in two rounds.

What nonsense. Man, Povetkin's career has spiraled out of control and it's only down-hill now.

Teddy is poison -- he loves to tear fighters down and destroy them. Povetkin made a fatal error getting involved with Atlas -- and he will pay with his career.

SOME people in the US hate the Klitschkos. Mostly Tyson nostalgists who hate everybody that isn't Tyson and old boxing media types like Burt Sugar who hate every heavyweight who isn't (African) American. The people who do respect them, like Dan Rafael, are getting more bold lately, though. It's hard to keep putting them down when all they do is win. And remember, many people in the US despised Lennox Lewis as well, which everyone has forgotten now. Retirement has been great for Lennox in that sense.

But I do agree that American fighters who lose to them are immediately written off as bums and tomato cans. It's a defence mechanism for those who insist the K-Bros are no good.

Povetkin is an idiot for listening to Atlas, he ruined him. He could have that one loss against Wlad, had $2.5 million in the bank, and be chilling somewhere in Russia alongside Sultan. Instead he is fighting exhibition fights and no-hoppers for chump change or for free, risking injury and his health every time, and is now talking about going back to the amateurs, LOL!!
