Will the WBC strip Sergio Martinez for not fighting Sebastian Zbik?

Sebastian Zbik is Sergio Martinez's WBC mandatory.

The WBC has declared Sergio Martinez must fight him by the end of March 2011.

Now Sergio doesn't duck anybody, and will have no problem fighting Zbik if the money is right. But Ross Greenburg doesn't like European fighters, and so probably won't allow a fight between Zbik and Martinez to be on HBO.

So because of the HBO money, Martinez will choose a higher-paying fight against a non-European fighter. I can't blame him.

But will Martinez be stripped of his WBC title?

In October, the WBC appointed interim middleweight champion Sebsatian Zbik the official mandatory challenger and ruled that Zbik must get his long waited shot at the full title by March 2011. With Sergio Martinez’ big win over Paul Williams, Zbik now knows who he will have to face. “The end rather surprised me,” said Zbik. “I was leaning toward Williams. Martinez comes into the ring in incredible condition. He has won every 2nd fight of his career early. In our fight I will have to go through the fire.”
Zbik has waited way too long, but thats when a guy like Pavlik ducks Abraham, Sturm and Zbik.

Hope Martinez fights him and shut him up.

Who cares? Everyone knows Sexy is the real champion anyway.

Would the WBC overlook the mandatory if he fought a unification match against Sturm. Also possibly the sexiest fight ever...

They will strip him, because he's not going to fight Zbik. Zbik isn't good... at all. Martinez would wax him.

It's also true that he would have to fight the silver champion Chavez Jr. immediately after Zbik. He should dump the belt... there's no point in keeping it considering all the baggage that comes with it.

I think sergie can blast him and make a couple of $$ while he make up his mind and decide his next move......

I would do that mandatory... is not like theres a line of BIG NAMES calling him out or wanting to give him a PAYDAY.......he should make all the easy money he can while hes on the top.....

take care of that mandatory then aim for something Big.....

true, but a true champion defends his title.

I agree, Sturm v Martinez would go down as the sexiest fight ever, their way of fighting is a thing of beauty.

btw Sturm is gonne fight in February again acc to himself in a interview at the Stieglitz fight. vs TBA

Who cares! He has the ring belt you know the belt that matters so all that would do is lessen the santioning fee Sergio has to pay on a usless alphabet titles!
