This was an interview with L-I-T-R radio before Luis Valero made his professional debut:

                  by Saul Jaugerui

                  Luis Valero on the Rt.

Luis Valero, the younger brother (22) of the late great Edwin Valero (27-0-0, 27 KOs) will make his much anticipated professional debut on Saturday 18th in Aguascalientes, Mexico; having recently signed an exclusive promotional contract with ET Promotions. Diehard boxing fans might remember Luis was originally supposed to make his debut back in September 2008 under the guidance of All-Star boxing in association with Japan’s Teiken Promotions.

On a recent phone call with ET Promotions CEO Ernesto Torres, I asked him to describe what it was like meeting and seeing Luis train for the first time. “When I first traveled to Colombia and saw Luis train I couldn’t believe my eyes; the intensity in the way he trains and spars, it reminds you of a young Edwin. He is a clone of his brother. I couldn’t believe no other promoters were rushing to sign him, I was literally the only one” answered an enthusiastic Torres.

An orthodox fighter Luis Valero had a limited amateur record in Colombia; only 7 amateur fights, going a perfect 7-0-0, 5 KOs. When asked if he could describe his style to the pro rankings , Luis Valero said,"I'm aggressive, I like Mike Tyson style, but I love my brother's style so I say I'm closer to his style and sparred my brother many times . "

His promotion and management team have big plans for Luis if all goes according to plan and he comes out with a win and is in relatively healthy condition. “We already have a verbal agreement with another promoter here in Mexico for a possible match next Saturday. The plan is to keep in active in the ring as much as possible for 2011 we have six schedule fights to build his career, but no plans to come to the states at the moment”

I had the opportunity to speak to Luis earlier this week while in camp; I asked him to shed a little insight and share something about his late brother Edwin that we (the public) might not know. “My brother… he was a kind and beautiful person. He and I had a very close relationship, a tight bond. Those of us who knew him on a personal level outside of the ring can attest to his character; he was one of the kindest most respectful persons you could ever meet. In my opinion, the one thing that changed Edwin was the alcohol. As soon as he consumed any alcohol Edwin’s personality would do a complete 360°; I wish Edwin could have kept his demons under control. Unfortunately I was not with my brother in the end, we had not seen each other for 5 months due to us both being busy with our boxing careers. In my opinion, things would have turned out differently if I was with my brother during the final months of his life”

Nobody knows what the future holds for Luis Valero; his last name could either be a curse of a blessing depending on how you look at it. There’s no doubt fans and critics alike will expect the same ferociousness and intensity out of Luis that his brother once displayed. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Luis Valero’s career and progress; we wish him luck on his debut.

Luis Valero wins 3rd fight by 1st round KO in 39 seconds!

Unbeaten super featherweight prospect Luis Valero (3-0, 3 KOs) won by knockout at 39 seconds of the first round against Roger Samudio in a fight held Saturday night at the Hotel Melia Panama Canal in Colon City, Panama. Valero now has three straight first round KOs since launching his career in September. His brother, former world champion Edwin Valero, opened his career with 18 consecutive first round KOs.
