According to Doug Fischer there is a rumour that Luis KO'ed Edwin in a dispute.

--And an interview before his pro debut valero appears at 4:03, but before that they talked with the promoter of Valero in Mexico, here they told that Valero unlike his brother went to University, he has a wife and a kid in Venezuela, he has been boxing since 2002, when they asked him what is his prefered style of boxing he just said I like to give KO'S, i like the explosiveness, that is in his nature.

His goals, be a world champion and after that win all the titles, he also talked about his admiration for the WBC belt, and that he felt really great when Edwin won his title,

His first steps in a boxing gym were when he was just a kid and he accompanied his brother Edwin to the gym when he has just an amateur boxer.

And that he was going to dedicate his Pro Debut to his brother Edwin that rest in peace was the first one that told him that he is a world champion and that he has everything to be one.
lol awesome man. thank you for that translation. He said his amateur record was 7 wins 0 losses 5KO but in the video said he's been boxing since 2002. I wonder why he didn't have more amateur fights?

I saw someone mention something similar on another site. I'd be interested in seeing the source from Fischer too.

Thanks for this. I do remember after Valero died reading several articles talking about his alcohol and drug problems along with earlier alleged abuse of his wife and i do recall in more than one the mention of jelousy towards his wife and him thinking his brother and wife were cheating with eachother behind his back. So if Edwin did think that i wouldn't be suprised if it came to blows.

A commenter who clearly has it in for referee Arthur Mercante, Jr. mentioned the above fight recently in a list of Mercante's sins. It was news to me. Until Saturday night, I'd thought Mercante was a pretty good ref. And maybe, on the sum of his career, he still is. But between the above clip…

Doug Fischer only attributes it to one source, but it's too intriguing not to pass along: He reports that Valero suffered from schizophrenia, and was on medication for it, but went off it and on to all kinds of illegal drugs he shouldn't have been taking. He also apparently fought with his brother because he thought his wife was cheating on him with his sibling, and get this -- little brother Luis KO'd big brother. Plus, Luis is said to have his brother's power but with "the moves of Jorge Linares." If crazy doesn't run in the family, that last tidbit is intriguing to those of us who wish Valero could have controlled himself outside the ring so we could see him fulfill his potential...

He's said to be good. I guess he wanted to KO in Memory of his brother, that's why he seemed so reckless. Just like when Edwin was being payed extra for 1st round KOs in japan.
