  • Comments Thread For: Lucian Bute-Sergio Martinez on Hold For Now, Says DiBella

It's no surprise that a dream fight, between Lucian Bute and Sergio Martinez, is on hold until further notice. As reported on BoxingScene.com last week, the network ties of both boxers would likely prevent a possible showdown from happening until a much later date in the future.

This is why Dibella is the best promoter around. Hes loyal to his fighters and people that do right by him.

Stick with HBO and see what you can do. Lemeux, Pirog, Margarito, and Cotto are all excellent fights at 154-160.

martinez vs any SMW willing to fight at 160 would be an awesome fight. Maybe Abraham can still make it?

hope pavlik doesnt fall of the map and takes 168 seriously as well

160/168 are boxing right now for me, potential fights for the next 5 years and thats assuming none of the prospects blow up

I heard the Martinez' promoter, Lou Dibella, has been celebrating and talking about big money fights for Segio against either Pacquiao or Mayweather. He should stop aounting the chickens until they're hatched because the fact still remains that:
            1. Sergio is too much of a high risk for Floyd
            2. Sergio is low reward because he hasn't established a massive following that is demanded in a fight against cash cows like Pacquiao or Mayweather
            3. He is too big for Pacquiao. If Pacquiao goes up to 154, Pac gets demolished. If Sergio goes down to 147 to fight Pac, Sergio gets demolished.

Anyhow, he will be ranked hight in the P4P list after this victory. P4P in theory is about defying the weigh scale, so why not challenging Lucian Bute. If he's able to accomplish that, he will surely development that sort of following which makes him a cash cow himself. Don't rely on other cash cows. Make a cash cow of yourself.

Lucian Bute didn't have a pair to fight Pascal or join the SUPER 6 Tournament, his great wins are against has beens ala Miranda and Andrade, name one F-KING Great Win on his resume, you will find none. Bute is just a great bodypuncher who has one title(IBF) fights at home(montreal) but won't take challenges, he fights in march, yet we don't know who the opponent is? Maybe he is looking for another washed up fighter from the Contender series ala Jessee Brinkley.

Honestly, if James Kirkland can come back strong and get 2 or 3 good fights under his belt I would love to see Martinez mix it up with him. That fight would be explosive.

This is a stpid fight at this time. Bute is a big SMW. Let Martinez get these big paydays. Martinez is too small for Bute. There is weight classes for a reason. Lets get back to actual boxing here. Everyone wants to move up in weight or fight at catchweights nowadays.

This a disappointing and ****** stance by Dibella. First of,there are no middleweights that will generate any interst. Secondly, he ain't getting a fight with a marquee fighter who fights below the middleweight division. Lastly, Bute is in need for a big named opponent because the Pascal-Hopkins winner is contractually obligated to give dawson a title shot. Bute and Martinez need each other right now. And if Dibella doesn't see that, h's doing a piss poor job as a promotor.
