maybe Berto-Pacquiao wouldn't be at 144, but would a fight between them be at a catchweight?

Pacquiao is still the one fighting, does he really need the advantage?

nobody is saying anything as drastic as Manny at HW

and besides, Manny is the favorite going into the fight ... on paper if he's already seen as the superior fighter (lets say matched up vs Cotto)

then how does the fight being at a catchweight even things out?

I've read numerous articles where Roach talks about Cotto "not being able to concentrate fully on training because he'll be too focused on making the weight" or so and so will be weight drained come fight night

so if Manny's already the favorite going into a fight vs Cotto or Margarito all adding the catchweight does is stack the deck more in Pac's favor. Since Manny's the smaller man, it'll be harder on the bigger men to make the catchweight

I don't see how adding a catchweight "evens things out"

when all it really does is give the favorite an extra advantage.

and besides, don't most people on here say that Pacquiao would beat these guys without the catchweight?

So what's the necessity to have a fight at a catchweight when it just gives the favorite (Pacquiao) an added advantage.
Dude, don't be so naive; trainers will do everything/anything for the advantage for their fighters (i.e. Capatillo for Margarito). Trainers will look at every angle before and durring the fight for their fighters. Again Manny doesn't choose the weight to fight at, it's negotiated by the promoters (who talk to the trainers). Don't be a simpleton, you have been watching and talking about boxing for how long now?

I think that when Pac blew out Ricky Hatton, and the hype really started to take off, they had no interest in a third fight with Marquez, which should have been made. There really aren't many great slick counter punchers right now. Marquez deserved another shot at Pac, but Arum wanted nothing to do with that fight. Better to make big bucks against less risky opponents, even though a fight with Marquez, after the Hatton fight or the DLH fight would have been huge. I still don't think Arum wants anything to do with Mayweather, but I think if he could get a deal that really favors Pac, he'd do it. The money is worth the risk in that situation. But I think he'd rather wait it out until he knows there aren't any other options. He wants to milk that cow dry, before he tosses it aside and moves on to the next big thing.

Sounds like a whole lot of excuses. The same excuses people
crusify Floyd for. Floyd is the biggest seller in boxing and he is
one of the, if not, THEE BEST technical fighter in the sport of Boxing.
Roach and Manny can call Floyd out all day but all they have to
do is say "Floyd, we will take the tests" and then we would be able
to see who wants the fight more. Pac did not agree to them so
lets not go there. Floyd came out of retirement to set up a fight
with Manny and the only thing that killed the fight was random
blood tests? That s#!t still pisses me off.

ring size, glove size ... I know advantages do get negotiated into contracts all the time

but how does Roach make his fighter come across when he's talking about how weight drained the opponent will be on fight night?

I can totally understand wanting to get as many advantages as possible

but when somebody (particularly a trainer) mouths of specifically about how weight drained an upcoming opponent will be

it looks like he's cherry picking. I mean I can understand wanting a certain glove or the ring to be a certain size

but how many advantages does the guy need?

It didn't happen but there was an article where Team Pacquiao actually discussed having Pacquiao use 8 oz gloves and DLH wear 12 oz gloves

I understand wanting advantages but IMO, too many makes you look pathetic

**Henry Armstrong didn't need catchweights to win his title belts

and I thought boxing was about who's better ... not who can weasel as many pre fight advantages as possible.

              • I believe that Mosley earned his last payday already. The guy has given soo much to the sport, give him one last shot to show hes still what he thinks he is.... Now that the Mosley cheerleader in me is finished, Id like to see Pac in there against Bradley.

                • The funny thing is that Manny got so offended by Floyd
asking for BOTH OF THEM to take the tests? Wasn't like
Floyd was worried about taking them. Still don't know
what was the big deal to do it like that, just to show a
                  sign of sportsmanship.

Hit it dead on. Pac avoids styles, Arum already made it clear he hasn't faced a TOP African American fighter. You cant argue that.

We can bash Floyd for "picking" fights that's all about money but then give a VERY blind eye to Pac when he selects subpar fighters or in house made to look good fighters to make more money.

People cant have it both ways. The same people that bash Floyd daily should be bashing the shyt out of Pac since his "catchweight" performance for the 147 title 3 fights ago. Floyd's fought once and that fight TRUMPS Pac's last two. Easily. nuff said.

Lets hope Pac's next "selection" will actually be worthy... at least the fighter should have a license. Hell at least be ranked especially if its for a "title".

                    • ^ that's why I still think the Williams-Sergio option is completely legit and shouldn't be overlooked

especially if the rematch winds up being exciting and action packed .. I'd def think Pacquiao would consider taking on the winner
