Cotto to me has never been next to being close to a sound
boxer but more of a pressure fighter who depending more on
    his power than his skill.
Barrera could box if he wanted to, like against Prince Hamed, but he tended to brawl a lot. Up until he fought Hamed, he was known as a guy that didn't really box much at all. That was a surprise victory, because he showed movement and restraint that no one expected from him.

Morales is the same. Knew how to box well, but liked to exchange and trade. Had that warrior mentality.

Marquez is probably the most technical of the three, and takes advantage of it, but gets caught up in trading and bravado as well. I think it's something that's built into the way they train fighters in Mexico. But Pac had huge problems with Marquez. Marquez finished stronger than Pac in both fights, and you could see that Pac was weary of him. Pac's quality of opposition has been up and down since Marquez. I think Cotto is probably his best win, since then. None of his opponents have been anything like Marquez. They know anyone with counter punching and movement like Marquez is a huge risk, so they've been putting him in with guys that are bigger and stronger, but more limited in their skill set. There is no way Arum wants to risk a loss on Pac's record. Every fight he wins, the story gets more press, and more and more money rolls in.

          • It'd be cool to watch Pac smack Mosley's ass into retirement.

I think Martinez would be too much for Pac. Martinez
has sound skill and he can take a punch pretty damn
good. Pac would possible get outboxed and tagged up.

i dont think they are weary of manny fighting technical boxers...mind you gentlemen that boxing is also a business...selling tickets and PPV...if they are afraid of matching manny with a technical boxer then they woudn't mention floyd's name everytime opportunities presents itself...lets face it guys technical boxers doesn't sell tickets and PPV...technical boxers dont make a compelling dramatic fight that could excite the audience and having them to come back for more(ofcourse there are a few exceptions)...FIGHTERS with BIG heart and devil may cry attitude in the ring sells tickets and PPV that is why they are the one's that are getting paid...if technical boxers are the one's selling tickets and PPV, Manny would be all over their asses...but unfortunately their not....

He fought Cotto at 145, and don't forget Margarito was a catchweight bout.

IMO Clottey wasn't seen as big of a risk, so no catchweight was needed for that fight

maybe Berto-Pacquiao wouldn't be at 144, but would a fight between them be at a catchweight?

nobody is saying anything as drastic as Manny at HW

and besides, Manny is the favorite going into the fight ... on paper if he's already seen as the superior fighter (lets say matched up vs Cotto)

then how does the fight being at a catchweight even things out?

I've read numerous articles where Roach talks about Cotto "not being able to concentrate fully on training because he'll be too focused on making the weight" or so and so will be weight drained come fight night

so if Manny's already the favorite going into a fight vs Cotto or Margarito all adding the catchweight does is stack the deck more in Pac's favor. Since Manny's the smaller man, it'll be harder on the bigger men to make the catchweight

I don't see how adding a catchweight "evens things out"

when all it really does is give the favorite an extra advantage.

and besides, don't most people on here say that Pacquiao would beat these guys without the catchweight?

So what's the necessity to have a fight at a catchweight when it just gives the favorite (Pacquiao) an added advantage.

                    • Whoever Arum will guarantee Pacquiao the most money ($15M minimum) is the one Pacquiao will fight. If it is not Mayweather, my guess is it will be Cotto.
