Given that the only reason he signed to fight Chisora was that none of the top heavyweights were willing to fight him this year, what gives you the idea that any of the same heavyweights who have already turned him down would suddenly agree to a fight with him at four weeks' notice?

One is allowed to hope, right? I just don't want to see another Shannon Briggs in there.Given that the only reason he signed to fight Chisora was that none of the top heavyweights were willing to fight him this year, what gives you the idea that any of the same heavyweights who have already turned him down would suddenly agree to a fight with him at four weeks' notice?

I don't think it's fair to criticise him, in the circumstances, whoever the opponent ends up being. It used to be the case that the top contenders would jump at a chance to fight the lineal champion, even at short notice, but those days have gone, and it's most unfortunate. He'll get the best opponent he can, and should be respected for wanting to keep busy. He could have sat it out and waited until someone like Adamek was willing to fight him, but he wants to stay active.Comment

He got ****ing robbed out of history against Valuev. Give him a fair shake at the title.
Plus it would generate 10x the interest ****ing Chisora does. Vitali always wanted to fight Tyson, why not fight the guy that beat him?Last edited by paulf; 10-30-2010, 07:05 PM.Comment

Holyfield may have done well against the ultra-slow Valuev, but he was completely outboxed by Ibragimov, who didn't win a single round against Wlad. Styles make fights, and Holyfield at his age can only cut it against ultra-slow opponents or bums.
Holyfield is already suffering from incipient brain damage. Knocking him out would do nothing for Wlad's reputation and if it led to Holyfield's condition getting worse, it would seriously damage his reputation. It would be like Holmes-Ali only much worse. It would be a lose-lose for Wlad.
If Holyfield officially beats a contender, that would be different, but except when he's been given a title shot he's only been fighting bums. He is not ranked in the top 20 of any independent rankings body, and if he seriously wanted to get a shot, he should be fighting someone in the top 20 in order to get a ranking.
But bottom line, he shouldn't be licensed to fight, with his condition, and it's disgusting that he is.Comment
