  • Floyd is "talented" but is he an ATG?

with his mediocre/ below average competition in the higher weights....................Hatton as a welterweight was clearly not in his optimal weight.............fat but brave JMM who he cheated in the scales....and senior citizen shane who rocked him...baldo who was starched by the young SAUL canelo..........an Oscar who gave him fits......

    Short answer, only to *****s.

Long answer, ATG's are defined by epic nights that involve either clear domination or some kind of rise from adversity that allows a fighter to win against other ATG's.

Hearns-Duran is an example of clear domination.

Leonard-Hagler is an example of rising above adversity in order to win.

Ali-Frazier, so on and so forth.

Floyd needs an epic night like that and the only fight I can think of where he could reach ATG status would be a May-Pac fight.

He either dominates Pac from the opening bell or he rises from adversity to pull off a win late in the fight.

    Or he loses.

Even then, just getting in the ring with Pac could possibly put Floyd in contention for ATG status, no matter what happens.

@ 130lbs, absolutely nothing can be taken away from Floyd. All time at that weight, it's Arguello, Elorde, and Floyd Mayweather at the very top.

but since then....nothing really impressive. Hung in there with a bum shoulder vs. Castillo....gave him the deserved rematch and beat him decisively.

beat Zab...but then again Baldo beat him. Beat Baldo, but so did an old ass Vernon Forrest (RIP) and pre-teen Canelo sparked him out.

I can't find an impressive win for Floyd above 135.

Of course he is.It's mind-boggling that people would even attempt to debate such a topic. How can you accomplish what he's accomplished, hold the type of resume that he does and not be called an all time great?

Floyd Mayweather has an excellent resume, has beaten many top fighters,in several different weight classes, and most importantly,is still competing at an elite level since first winning his first world title against a very good opponent in Genaro Hernandez.

Could he have accomplished more? No doubt. But that still doesn't take away what he already has accomplished.

Seriously, how is his competition BELOW AVERAGE, that is just silly. If he hasnt fought anyone who can test him since 135 then obviously according to you Pacqiauos wins over De La Hoya and Hatton are irrelevant right? Baldomir? Come on man, the guy isnt even a shell of what he was, and that wasnt much.

hatton being a few pounds over his best weight doesnt make it a worthless win, hatton had been a champ at 147 and its far from floyds optimal weight too.

                  marquez i agree with.

shane was the best WW in the world, past his best but still amongst the elite p4p. to overlook him bcuz of age is just ignorant, that shane rocked him only makes it more impressive bcuz he showed he can come back from adversity. sht happens, but floyd handled it perfectly and showed his mental makeup.

baldo is a garbage win bcuz hes garbage. that he got knocked out like 5 years after floyd beat him doesnt mean anything, it just shows once again that u have an agenda by how u look for ways to bash floyd.

its also funny how u fail to mention his best wins and act like they didnt happen. diego corrales, genaro hernandez etc. i wont discuss if floyd is an ATG or not cuz thats not what the thread is about, its just day another day and anotger chance for u to bash him for no reason. get a life.

u might need therapy first though, u have issues.

Iron, there is no talking sense into this guy,he doesn't realize that discrediting Hatton,Oscar & Shane carries over to Pacman, even Marquez to an extent!!Oscar was half dead vs Manny(Floyd beat him when he was a 154lb Champion)!!Hatton fought well before being ko'd & Manny wouldn't fight Shane so Shane offered to come down to 143!!Marquez was expected to try & fight Pacman somewhere around 140,(because Manny wasn't going any lower anyway)so......!!
