You do know that Floyd has a very hard time putting fights together with Top Rank, and he gets along great with Oscar and GBP. How do you figure being with Oscar would not make it easier to get this fight on?

Because during the time when Cotto would've signed with GBP (post the Clottey fight) Mayweather and Pacquiao was already making noise and Mayweather had a fight set with Marquez that September. Adding the whole "Mosley walking in the ring" situation, I doubt heavily Oscar would've pushed Shane to the side and given new signee Cotto a huge money fight instead. Obviously a big obstacle (Top Rank) would be removed from making Cotto vs Mayweather, but I still believe that fight wouldn't have materialized and given the options between Shane and Cotto, I'm hard pressed to believe Mayweather picking Cotto over Shane considering both had been on a collision course far longer than Mayweather and Cotto (also adding that Mosley was the recognized Welterweight champion and defeated the #1 WW).

Allow me to reiterate my original purpose with this tread,hopefully more clearly!!I have nothing to comment on involving the Margarito-Cotto fight since there isn't any way that 1 can know for sure if Margarito cheated!!

This topic originally doesn't involve the catchweight title fight with Cotto & Manny!!I am also not speaking about before his fight with Manny Pacman!!I'm talking about earlier this year when Floyd visited Rico & hung out with Cotto!!I think that would have been the perfect time to leave top rank for golden boy & make a Cotto-Floyd fight happen!!

When I say that I believe arum threw Cotto under the bus,I'm refering to Margarito being caught cheating against Mosley,(not Cotto)!!

Now it seems to me that arum did get Cotto a shot at another title,but Cotto earned every bit of it because he moved up in weight & fought a legit 154lb titlist!!No catchweights,no vacant belts,these are the facts!!But after earning this belt,Cotto should have defected to golden boy,(in my opinion),because I have no doubt that golden boy could have worked out a deal for him & Floyd to throw down!!

With that out of the way,I am inclined to believe that arum worked above an beyond anything appropriate in getting this fight between Manny & Margarito!!Margarito was caught loading his gloves against Mosley,that's cheating,period!!But he somehow fought to get Margarito his license,literally nationwide because California wanted no part of it!!He also fought to make this a title fight,for a vacant title at a catchweight,I think that's a little wrong,because Cotto has been through a lot an it simply seems disrespectful for arum to go through such lengths for Margarito & Manny,but to make Cotto earn every single thing the hard way!!

See to me this all seems like you have a problem with Pac-Margarito being at a catch-weight for a vacant title. And, you should have a problem with it, and you're absolutely right.

However, don't use that as example of Arum doing wrong to Cotto. Because, that is not true at all. Arum has done right by him

You make it seem as Arum makes Cotto jump through hoops. How did Cotto earn a shot at a vacant title against Jennings? What did Cotto do at 154 to earn a title shot? I don't care that it was at 154 what did he do? There were plenty of other fighters at 154 who deserved a shot against Foreman more so than Cotto did. What did Cotto do at that weight to EARN that shot?

To me IMO your whole argument on how somehow Arum is doing wrong by Cotto is just not valid and is more so cuz you is not about Top rank and Cotto is about Nov 13.

Then his next fight he got a title shot at 154, $2 mil guaranteed, a fight at Yankees stadium, and had the highest rated boxing event (non PPV) of the year for HBO. Then his next fight will be a big money event against the undefeated son of a Mexican legend, that's an easy 500K and probably $5+ mil in the bank. Then he will fight either Pac or Margarito for more millions and more PPV revenue, maybe in another packed stadium.

There is no way Cotto is hurting through his relationship with Top Rank. But of course he'd be better off with Gary Shaw or Lou Dibella fighting in half-empty 2,000 seat Indian Casinos right?

Yup....exactly what I was saying.

I just don't see what GBP would've done for Cotto more than what Top Rank already has done for him. In comparison to a lot of the new fighters today, Cotto was brought up very well and was given good opportunities at the right times. Though I have my opinions on Margarito vs Cotto it doesn't change the fact that Cotto is still one of Top Rank's biggest stars next to Pacquiao and is still a Superstar in the sport.
