then is it fair to say that if pacquiao never existed, freddy wouldn't be the revered coach he is today?
School me on why Roach is a great trainer

In absolutely every profession....results are the biggest determining factor when assessing someone's "greatness" or aptitude (given they didn't "cheat").
Roach simply gets results. There's nothing more that needs to be said.
Joe Montana got results. Ali got results. Jordan got results. SRL got results.
Freddie gets it done...plain and simple. He's a winner.
You would hope that would be obvious.
But apparently not, so thanks for posting that.Comment

-he's selfless almost to a fault. IMO, he got to a point where he spread himself too thin.
-its already been mentioned that he's dedicated. all he does is train.
-he adapts to the fighter and doesnt force the fighter to adapt to him. can train different types of fighters with different styles.
-he teaches the fundamentals well. good communicator both in and out of the ring.
-great game planner and gets his fighters to follow through on the game plan
-gives succinct advice, remains calm during the bout and doesnt overwhelm his fighter with information.Comment

an you're not even a *******. green k for you. my thing is, lets be honest, we consider him a great trainer because of pacquaio. but, what exactly about pacquaio's career should he actually be given so much credit for? not saying he doesn't deserve any, but surely we aren't gonna give freddy applause for marquez pacquaio, morales, clottey etc. for cotto, def, hatton? i don't know..i mean, look at this fight coming up. EVERYONE knows pacquaio has to overwhelm tony, get in and out etc. any 2 dollar coach could tell you that. does freddy get praised for a pac victory over margs? sure he'll get it..but does he really deserve it and should it boost his legacy? i'm not so sure..-he's selfless almost to a fault. IMO, he got to a point where he spread himself too thin.
