True he could have fought Evander and achieved the same thing, I would consider Briggs a more live opponent though.

Granted, Valuev *****ed out but a top 10 or even 15 guy would do just fine.

For the record I don't give a ****, just something to talk about.
If the issue was just someone better to defend the belt against fine, I wish there was someone better and available but there doesn't seem to be other ppl him or Wlad beat recently or prospects that are not ready yet.

I think Foreman did enough to win the fight have not seen it in a long time though.

Last time I saw Briggs fight he was looking fairly pathetic against Ibragimov.

i posted this in another thread. the topic is being discussed a lot lately, and a previous post of mine sums it up nicely

on comments about klitschkos finding better fighters:
who else would you rather vitali or wladimir fight? i mean, dude... ok here is espns top 10 heavyweights

            1. wladimir klitschko
            2. vitali klitschko
            3. david haye
            4. alexander povetkin
            5. tomasz adamek
            6. nikolai valuev
            7. ruslan chagaev
            8. eddie chambers
            9. tony thompson
            10. denis boytsov

ok so those are the only guys that really hold any relevance to this division right now. you could try to argue solis belongs there somewhere, but eh, hes really not that good.

            lets analyze this list
david haye - the biggest and clearest duck in possibly the history of the sport
povetkin - trainer says he needs more experience - i guess you could call it a duck, at least hes not calling them out and admits to ducking
adamek - wants klitschkos in 2011 - i guess hes still warming up to heavyweight. a slight duck but can be forgiven if he follows through with his 2011 claims
valuev - absolute idiot who turned down a career high payday against vitali. valuev was coming off of a LOSS. absurd. is out for some sort of surgery now though, hand injury i think?
chagaev - has already been stopped by wladimir
thompson - has already been stopped by wladimir
boytsov - is recovering from some sort of surgery, but i think hes training. i believe i read somewhere that he turned down a fight for one reason or another. can anyone indulge on this one?

regardless, thats the state of the division. everyone has either been whipped, unavailable, or avoiding the fight. vitali fighting briggs is a joke? you know, probably - but who else is there? is fighting solis any better? not really - briggs is just as dangerous as solis is and no one really cares about either fight. they wanna see the bros fight the top guys, top guys dont want it! maybe solis is a little better than briggs, maybe not - but in reality who cares? neither of them pose even a remote threat or spark any interest with anyone.

send the comments toward the other TOP FIGHTERS in the division, thats where they belong. you can BET that when ever haye, adamek, povetkin, valuev want to really fight - that the klitschkos will be right there waiting to take the fight. there is no need to complain about briggs getting the shot before solis does. briggs and solis will both get ktfo, no one cares about either fight - neither fight enhances either bro's legacy. there is not much difference between the fights. commend them for staying active with the level of competition that is available. think of it this way, all of the fighters that are available that aren't in the top ten - name off a few of them. where does briggs place on that list? the guys that you have above briggs - are they really that much more dangerous than he is? do you really care about any of those other fighters more than briggs?

the only meaningful fights at heavyweight are the ones that involve povetkin, valuev, haye, adamek fighting a klitschko. until then, everything else is just stay busy - and equally crappy. express your disdain, but don't send it in the wrong direction.

Who cares that they were beat by Wlad already? Wlad beat a few them not Vitaly. Vitaly should try and beat them.

I am tired of people trying to put their resumes together. Wlad can't fight so and so cuz Vitaly already beat him, Vitaly can't fight so and so cuz Wlad already beat him. That is a ridiculous statement. Vitaly should try and beat some top 10 fighters.

I rather have Vitaly fight Dimitrenko, Thompson, Solis, Chagaev, then fighting the likes of Briigs or F'iing Sosnowski or whatever his name is.

I could careless that Wlad already beat Thompson and Chagaev they're top 10 guys that now Vitaly should try and beat.

I was all for Vitaly-Peter, I could careless that Wlad had already beat him. Because, Peter at the time was a top 10 guy. I was disappointed when Wlad chose Peter in a rematch cuz Peter had no case to being a top 10 guy.

Just fight the best competition out there. Briggs and sonowski are the best comp available at all.

yea because fighting lennox lewis (and putting a beating on him only to get stopped via cut) is cherry picking. coming out of 4 years of retirement after multiple surgeries, and without any tune up fights, to impressively STOP the current title holder his FIRST fight back is cherry picking. fighting chris arreola, who i BELIEVE (not 100% sure) was in the top 5 at the time, young, hungry, and dangerous - was cherry picking. fighting corrie sanders - who just knocked wladimir out in TWO rounds - was cherry picking. BEGGING david haye (who is about 10 years his junior?) to get into the ring with him - is cherry picking. offering valuev a career high payday when he doesn't even remotely deserve it - is cherry picking.

most people will remember the lewis fight for sure, but only complete idiots will think that vitali didn't earn his respect that night.
