Vitali vs. Lennox has a taste of unfinished business. There should have been a rematch. But Lennox retired.

Maybe. Who knows the reason behind why he retired, except Lewis himself? Certainly not you or I. Lennox was getting on in years, was past his best (note I didn't say shot) and had more or less taken on and beaten the best the division had to offer at the time. Yeah, maybe he was wary about being beaten in a rematch, and I don't condone him jerking Vitali around for the few months following the fight, but no fighter wants to go out on a loss, and Lennox has always been smarter than most. His retirement was perfect. He got out at the top of the game. So yes, sarcastic or not, it was a masterful retirement.

Wasn't sarcastic. I really think he ended it when he should have ended it. I agree he does not have to go out on a loss like many others.

Maybe he would have beaten Vitali in a rematch, maybe not. Who knows? That's why I say it has an "unfinished business" vibe.

I understand what you mean, but quitting and cuts are legit losses. And second, about the Lewis fight.. That fight could have stopped 2 rounds earlier. I cant believe how some people think it should have went to the 7th round, he could have lost his eye lid. That cut was one of the worst cuts I've ever seen.

Both fighters took the fight on short notice, but they were in training for others so the conditioning excuse doesn't wash. Saying that, Lewis wasn't in anywhere near as bad a condition as some people like to point out. Jeezus, from the way they speak you'd think Lennox entered the ring in a wheelchair looking like Gabe Brown with an oxygen mask held to his wheezing face. He was caught cold in the opening rounds, but by the fifth and sixth he was really starting to warm up and land hard shots to Vitali's cro-magnon dome whilst Vitali, contrary to popular reports, was wheezing and visibly tiring, his punches having less and less of an effect on Lewis, even when landing flush. The uppercut Lewis threw is the punch everyone remembers, but fast forward to the last twenty seconds of the sixth. Lennox catches Vitali with a short overhand right from a clinch that has Vitali reeling and grasping at Lennox's waist. To say that Vitali would have then gone on to "definitely" knock out Lennox in the seventh is pure wishful thinking of the most nonsensical sort.

I agree. People from both sides are being ridiculous on this issue.

True, but it kind of ended up as the best of both worlds, in my view. Lennox retires on a victory over Vitali, Vitali makes his name with an awesome display of guts and goes on to become a dominant champion of the new era. Neither fighter really lost anything in that fight, from a career point of view.

because vlad is younger and has more belts. vitali is the greatest imo. not to take anything away from vlad but his fights are not as fun to watch and vitali is unbreakable. highest ko % and never gone down. but i hope wladimir can take his place.
