So I compiled this list with all the big title fights with catchweights

Roy Jones Jr. vs Felix Trinidad (170 catchweight)

Julio Cesar Chavez vs Pernell Whitaker (145 catch-weight for W.W title)

Bernard Hopkins vs Oscar De La hoya (158 catchweight)

Jose Luis Castillo vs Diego Corrales (both fighters agreed to make 135 but no one can weigh more than 147 on fight night)

Jimmy McLarnin vs Pancho Villa (114 catchweight but McLarnin came in overweight at 122)

Joe Gans vs Joe Walcott (138 pound catchweight)

Henry Maske vs ****** Hill (190 catchweight)

Fernando Vargas vs Ricardo Mayorga (162 catchweight)

Miguel Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao (145 catchweight)

Paulie Ayala vs Johnny Tapia (124 catchweight)

Terry Norris vs Meldrick Taylor (150 1/2 catchweight)

Henry Armstrong vs Law Jenkis (140 catchweight, for a Welterweight Bout! )

Emile Griffith vs Dave Charnley (148 catchweight)

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Donny Lalonde (168 catchweight)

I know there are dozens more, but you get the point. Margarito agreed, and Pacquiao agreed.. So what the hell is the problem? You think Margarito is a coward or a fool who's gonna come into a fight allowing a disadvantage that cripples him? Get over it and focus on the fight.

Nice effort compiling everything. Interesting read.

Manny Pacquiao invented catchweights, everyone knows that.

And now a future generation of fighters is following his example.

You can add Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez II (157 catchweight) to your list.

I believe Zarate vs Zamora was also a catchweight.

Pacquiao used catchweights to set history.

He will burn in hell for that. Greed is a deadly sin.

People either don't know, or don't want to. Catchweights have always been in boxing, if they weren't welcomed...then their would be hundreds of divisions based on a per pound bases. The gap between 140 and 147, is 7 pounds. fighters can negotiate a weight that pleases the both of them, an equal terms agreement. I'm a high believer in, if you don't like it, don't sign it.
and nowadays, you have an entire day to rehydrate...is manny gonna weigh more than Margarito on fight night? No, nowhere near it.

I would rather have two fighters agree to a catchweight than go and gamble on a guy I think is at a disadvantage if he was to weigh any more....I'm into making money, and the overnight hydration, is something that actually concerns me. i'm very interested in seeing how much Margarito is going to weigh on fight night.
