I was simply swayed because he was moving up in weight fighting a great fighter. I've picked Pac to not only beat, but destroy everyone he's fought since. And I don't think you have an understanding of styles. Bradley, Alexander, and Khan to an extent present something that Pac has trouble with, and that's lateral movement. In those guys he's also facing guys that aren't just completely trumped by him in the speed department and would be totally outdone by his hand and foot speed. In Margarito, he's facing a statue that is basically impossible to miss. Outside of him following Pac around the ring eating shots, he has nothing else to offer. The most Margarito can hope for is to eat up shots and hope Pac will wear down, which he won't. I'm not saying I'd pick any of the top guys at 140 to beat Pac. Hell, I'd pick him to KO all of them. But, all of them are better fighters than Clottey and Margarito and would have been much better options and much more meaningful fights, IMO.
we dont share the same opinion. i think Clottey and Margarito at this point are better than those guys in jr welterweight.

people criticize Manny for not fighting a defensive fighter and he did. dominated Clottey. they criticize him for not fighting slick. if Clottey and Cotto could beat "slick" Zab Judah, would you honestly believe Manny would have a problem with those "slick boxers"? i know triangle theory doesnt work here but if Clottey could beat slick boxer why cant Manny? and Manny did beat some slick boxers back in the lower weight class.

i have no problem Manny fighting Margarito. fighting at a catchweight of 151 lbs is like testing a water if Manny can take punches and can really hurt Margarito i believe he would fight a good boxer in jr middleweight. but i would rather see him staying in welterweight.

I dot get into the whole, Pac doesn't fight slick fighters talk. IMO, you're supposed to fight the top guys, not certain styles. And throughout Pac's career, the slick huys generally haven't been on top. He did avoid one in Zahir Raheem. But in his entire career, outside of Raheem, I think he's fought everyone he was supposed to fight. IMO, he should have fought the JMM rematch instead of Morales the first time. But, he lost the fight, so Morales proved at least for one night he still had something left. I thought he should have fought a third fight with JMM instead of David Diaz back in 2008. But, he's gone on and fought in one mega event or superfight after another. So I don't kill him for it.

As for you thinking Margarito is an acceptable opponent, I think that's more the Pacquaio fan coming out in you, but that's your choice. Personally, I see it as a total waste of time for the guy who's suppsoed to be the best fighter in the world. I bust on him for Clottey. But the truth is, I wasn't all that mad at him at the time because he was coming off three major events, two of which were superfights. So I didn't think a gimmie was the worst thing. But now, he's had his gimmie and I'm ready to see Manny Pacquaio fight an elite or fringe elite fighter. And I think Timothy Bradley would fit that bill. And if he wanted to fight at 154, there's a couple P4P elites named Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez who can make that weight easily. But to fight a guy who didn't win a single second of a single round against a guy who was only able to win one round against Mayweather (who Pac is supposed to be equal to or better than) and just fought to a draw with Sergio Mora in his last real fight is a total waste of time for th guy who is supposedly the best fighter in the world.

Only chance Pac has is to blitz Mayweather early on when he seems most vulnerable as guys like zab and Mosley showed. But if Floyd gets into his rhythm its curtains for Pac.

Yeah but what makes the fight interesting, is that Marquez is also a risk taker and will freely trade. Floyd will not do that. I see the fight having frequent momentum shifts. Both guys have a style that has the potential to shut the other guy down offensively.

I would not bet on a winner for that fight. I see a close decision either way.

        • Abraham's opinion matters more and is much more respected than any of the haters posting on this or any site. Its plain and simple, Manny would have to get lucky to beat Floyd.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs Pernell Whitaker (145 catch-weight for W.W title)

Jimmy McLarnin vs Pancho Villa (114 catchweight but McLarnin came in overweight at 122)

Joe Gans vs Joe Walcott (138 pound catchweight)

Henry Maske vs ****** Hill (190 catchweight)

Bernard Hopkins vs Oscar De La hoya (158 catchweight)

Jose Luis Castillo vs Diego Corrales (both fighters agreed to make 135 but no one can weigh more than 147 on fight night)

Fernando Vargas vs Ricardo Mayorga (162 catchweight)

Roy Jones Jr. vs Felix Trinidad (170 catchweight)

Miguel Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao (145 catchweight)

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Juan Manuel Marquez (144 catchweight, Mayweather came in overwheight at 146) (This is a non title bout but I added it anyways because prior to retirement, Floyd was the lineal W.W champ)

Paulie Ayala vs Johnny Tapia (124 catchweight)

Terry Norris vs Meldrick Taylor (150 1/2 catchweight)

Henry Armstrong vs Law Jenkis (140 catchweight, for a Welterweight Bout! )

Emile Griffith vs Dave Charnley (148 catchweight)

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Donny Lalonde (168 catchweight)

All are for titles except Mayweather vs Marquez. Armstrong fought at 2 catchweights, one was a title bout.
