Comments Thread For: Victor Ortiz-John Murray Could Explode on Khan-Maidana

If Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has his way, there will be an explosive HBO televised co-feature to Amir Khan's defense of the WBA junior welterweight title on December 11 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Schaefer has expressed his interest in matching Victor Ortiz against John Murray (29-0, 17KOs) in a junior welterweight contest.

Is John Murray big enough to compete at 140?

Never seen John Murray, is he any good? Nice looking record but its loaded with creme puffs. I imagine Victor would handle this kid.

Ortiz would aboslutley smash him with ease. John Murray is very mediocre and he has beaten nobody... Maybe finally when Ortiz knocks him out he'll shut up about Khan.

          murray is ortiz' michael jennings.
i knew if ortiz was on the undercard it'd amount to a tune up bout.
thats too bad, i'd rather have seen him against kotelnik, l.peterson... or even a julio diaz type fighter.

Why the hell would Ortiz want to fight a lightweight? Didn't Khan get heat for chasing JMM?

And why the hell would an unproven lightweight want to move up in weight to face one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport?

It seems Victor Ortiz is just not a very good fighter.

This going to be at least the second lightweight Victor Ortiz is fighting. Victor Ortiz also fought a super-featherweight, Roberto David Arrieta.

nope, he's a good fighter. gbp/and hbo are just setting him up to look good. i doubt he's asking for these opponents. who the hell is john murray?
notice it said "richard shaefer has expressed interest..."
it aint like he's headlining the event. he's on the undercard so he gets an undercard opponent AKA a showcase fight.

Couldn't agree more! All that fight would do is leave more doubt over Ortiz's mindset and heart.

Ortiz has all the other skills to be fighting the top guys.

Khan know's he's got a weak chin but he's putting himself out there at least.

Ortiz would explode Murray's career, I guess.

I think this is just to maximize British interest in the card.

He's big enough, just not so good enough.
