I get what they're doing with revoking his licences and all, but how in the hell can they fine him money for something he was doing during his own private time. He didn't ask to be video taped. Besides that, it's a victimless "crime". The only person he hurt was himself. Just because I saw Ricky hoover a couple of lines, does that mean I'm gonna stop watching boxing?? So does that mean all these other "boxers behaving badly" are also being fined for their actions unrelated to boxing? Come on! Anything to put money in their own pockets.
Furthermore, they could have just suspended his licences until he completes rehab and gets in to a program. Way to give him something to look forward to *******s! :****you: You'd think he had got caught attempting murder or some ****!
I hope this doesn't put Ricky in to a deeper depression. Talk about kicking a guy when he's down.

Personally, I don't think the reporters should splash his misery around like this, but whatever...I have no real sympathy for that aspect of any celebrities' woes either.

He probably should lose his child and his promoter's license, but I am glad he lost neither. It would be a bit much at this point. If his fiance is willing to look out for the kid, or his parents are willing to do so then it is probably best for the kid and Hatton to have this business left alone. If Hatton does NOT recover, or if he continues this reckless behavior, then he absolutely should lose custody.

Excellent question and good points. They should not have fined him (unless it was a legal proceeding and part of the British Justice system) and it would have been best to operate in the manner you suggested by giving him something to look forward to after rehabilitation is complete.

I could understand taking his boxing license away, anyway he hasn't fought since he got KO'd by Pacquiao in May of last year(over a year) & didn't seem like he was going to fight any time soon..But giving him a fine is sort going overboard cause he was getting high on his own free time with his own money & it wasn't during training or right before a fight...It seems like the British boxing commission it trying to use this as an excuse to make some extra cash..Instead of giving him a fine, they should recommend a place where Hatton could get some help!!

Hey, I think it's ****** too but its nice to see a boxing commission exhibit some teeth...even on a small item such as this. America should run its boxing model, and take a few pointers from this.

Notice it's the BRITISH Boxing Board of Control meaning it's national with single UNIFIED rules for boxers to follow that applies to entire UK (Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England)...not some individual state like Nevada or New York or Texas or California.

The NFL has morality clauses built into the CBA to protect their brand.

The NBA is similar and is very image conscious and makes players wear suits on sidelines.

Yes it's dumb, but when you bring shame upon the League or do something that's a public relations f up you sometimes you need to pay price.

              It's called having STANDARDS.

WTF did Plaxico Buress or Roethlisberger have to do with football? Nothing, but acting like a dumbass and being a PR nightmare for L means you get suspended just like Hatton.

If there was National Boxing Commission in America with a real commissioner with some actual rules and standards, Floyd would have been fined with all the drug testing demands he never had any authority or jurisdiction to make in first place. Hell...if there was a Players association protecting interests of fighters (setting up healthcare, mutual funds for retirement, etc.) they would fight in interests of both Floyd and Pacquiao and handle the drug testing issue properly.

But this is boxing and it's all about bs. Yeah, it was a little coke but at least they have some standards. That just happens to be how the Brits handle their own.

Unfortunately, boxing still operates like the wild west. It's like al queda in Pakistan, and everybody in boxing from fighters to ABC organizations are making up their own rules as they along. Diamond belts here, license this guy there, whatever.

I respect British boxing showed something on such a minor issue. At least their operating like a REAL organization like the NFL, my guess is boxing could do same.

This ****ing sucks for Hatton, sure take his license but the fine makes things worse, as if he needed any more bad things happening to him. Damn I hope Hatton pulls through OK.

I agree, the fine seems very inappropriate, especially since he never entered the ring high on anything. He went into rehab for depression, not for drug and alcohol abuse and maybe that is why they handed down the fine. I think he should be okay, he earned alot of money and has family around him who cares. I was never a huge fan but he seemed like a genuinely nice guy...
