gomez also tried to make a name for himself by challenging a shot arturo gatti and an equally shot jose luis castillo

chavez "diva" jr should beat him but not as impressively as cotto did
Panda, he actually did have a still healing broken hand(which he had broke against Ben Tackie's head in his previous fight) and he actually was badly ill during his camp for Cotto. However, he didn't want to pull out because he had to take the chance when it was offered regardless. He also didn't pick Gatti or Castillo as opponents, Gatti was given a list of choices from HBO that he could fight in his comeback fight and he picked Gomez because he thought Gomez was slow, light-hitting, and easy to outbox. Castillo was given the fight by Top Rank as one last decent payday bone because Castillo is broke.

As to this fight, if it happens, at 154 I'd pick Gomez to win by decision without reservations. He's more skilled than anyone Jr has fought so far by a decent margin. At Middleweight, I'm still rolling with Alfonso but it's tougher sledding because that is pretty far from his best weight. Regardless, it should be a good fight.

The difference is that Alvarez-Cotto wasn't headling a PPV.
