and lol at the people saying the tourney wouldve been a bad economical move for montiel...it was at least 3 guranteed premium cable paydays......up to 5 if they had gotten to the finals....(thats when it was a super 6..)...great exposure (last i checked, montiel has been fighting in latin fury, versus, fsn and ppv undercards since he stunk out the joint vs gonzalez on HBO)....................and who knows when Arum is actually gonna put Mintiel vs Donaire.....could be more than a year, knowing that greedy ****.....not to mention, i dont even think that could make more than 100000 PPV's...as the main event without a loaded card......

To go along with what Hyperion was saying, Montiel makes about 100k for those small time ppv shows, while bantamweights on showtime make around 300-500k. It's definitely a better choice in the long run to be apart of a tournament and even in one fight, Darchinyan will probably make more then Montiel would have.

Montiel would have been making good money in this tournament, much more then he could generate on his own.

          Donaire vs Montiel

WHAT HAPPENED TO DONAIRE vs MONTIEL? That is the fight boxing fans would like to see. Forget Donaire vs somebody else...forget Montiel vs somebody else...present to us a DONAIRE vs MONTIEL extravaganza and we would be very thankful and happy for the promoters that will exert an extra effort to make this fight happen.

fact is, Montiel likes the celebrity treatment he's gotten in Mexico after his Hasegawa victory and thus, was happy uncle bob saved his ass from lesser known threats, even if it meant skipping on great paydays......if he loses to Donaire at least he is considered elite...so he wouldnt get a lot of heat in the boxing commmunity.....

How is Monitel going to make more money outside of the tournament? At best he fights Donaire and makes the same amount the tournament guys will make, the difference is the tournament guys are guaranteed two fights of that caliber.

                For Donaire his
representatives said it would be a pay cut. He has a guarantee of 250k from Arum, I guess that is why he left Shaw for Arum. that is also probably the reason he fights no-names since Arum has to pay him so much.

Saved by Uncle Bob? He fought Hasegawa against the wishes of Arum.
His Mexico representatives set up that fight.

Unless he stays away fighting bums, Montiel will be like another mayweather, ducking from worthy opponents. Donaire showdown will make more cents.
