  • Martinez does not have the stamina to beat Paul Williams.

He gassed in the first fight and went a few rounds with out doing but running and getting punched in the face.

One on ref break he fell to the floor crawled around for a second and got up breathing hard as hell.

    Clearly exhausted.

After the fight he said something along the lines of "I was trying to preserve energy to keep up with his pace".

Now in the Pavlik fight. Mid fight he got tired again and Pavlik stole rounds.

Martinez can not keep up with Paul Williams. He will lose....again.

And new Ring Middleweight Champion of the worldddddddddddddddd

I think it's more that he doesn't have the stamina to get a decision against Williams.

I think the 2nd fight will look a lot like the first one.

Martinez will clearly land the cleaner blows. Williams will do good work too, but Williams will just be more active and sway the judges.

It's really, really hard in this day and age to get a decision against a guy as active as Williams.

          But he didnt. He lost.

If you rewatch the fight you can clearly see stretches of Martinez doing nothing at all.

Out his own mouth he said he was trying to preserve energy.

He has bad stamina its clear to see how that is a problem vs a guy like Williams. I take it you didnt see the Pavlik fight.

I think Sergio won the first fight but he's not getting any younger.

            he is getting better though.

So take your pick. I'm going Sergio via SD this time because he is worth more than williams to the broadcasters.

If you quote him on what he said after the Williams fight, why don't you quote him on what he said after the Pavlik fight?...

He basically said he purposely took his foot off the pedal in the middle rounds to have a very strong finish. After the 9th, he proceeded to average over 90+ punches thrown and 20-30+ landed in the last 4 rounds.

He only had 6 weeks to train for Williams anyway, while Paul knew he was going to fight on that date and had been in training camp before that only having to switch up his gameplan.

True but Williams was also hitting air and gloves alot.

I guess thats a better way to word it. I watched that fight several times and it seemed like no matter how hard he hit Williams. Paul did not care he kept throwing punches.

Did you see what I mentioned in the Pavlik fight or am I off base? His stamina almost let Pavlik back in the fight. If it wasnt for that cut think its a different fight.

He didn't get the decision, but if there were 3 other judges, he could have. If he could keep up with Williams enough the first time to arguably win, I don't see how he won't this time. I saw the Pavlik fight and yes, Martinez took rounds off..but that doesn't mean he will lose to Williams, as I don't think his stamina was any worse than it was in the first Williams fight.
