Comments Thread For: Atlas: Povetkin To Have Three Fights Back To Back

Trainer Teddy Atlas, who works with undefeated Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin, says the former Olympic gold medal winner will be very active in the next couple of months. Povetkin was scheduled to fight WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko earlier this month. He was replaced by Samuel Peter after Atlas advised Poevtkin to withdraw from the contest to gain more experience.

3 fights from oct30-jan15 is good to hear but if a couple are vs top 15 boxers,is that enough time inbetween to prepare? Who will be the 3 opponents? Timo Hoffman, dominick guinn,& welliver...those are 3 realistic names that come to mind.welliver is #11 in wbo & sasha is ranked ahead of welliver.guinn has been a name who is popping up regularily & has made a recent challenge.Hoffman is big, fights out of Germany & is a realistic opponent for sasha oct30...

Im still waiting for Atlas to tell us when he is stepping down as Povetkins trainer.

He is going to dive him straight into the ground

***What Atlas is pretty much saying is that he is waiting for the Klits to age

Teddy's doing a great job.......of ****ing up a HW career. People slate Haye on hear but Povetkin is the biggest joke around. Just bizarre moves lately, make no sense.

I want to see that happen. However, Atlas did not say which top 15 exactly he mean. Top 15 at IBF?

welliver is WBO #11, maurice harris is IBF# 15....dominick guinn as i said earlier has issued a challenge & twice was named by atlas as a possible opponent.in january david tua could be the opponent since he is WBO #2 & sasha is WBO #3...just because he lost his IBF mandatory shot doesnt mean he is out of the picture.only tua & adamek are ahead of him in WBO.one big win vs adamek or tua & he's wlads mandatory again.i see this, teddy atlas knows this & any boxing fan who pays attention to rankings should know this....BOXING REC RANKINGS MEANS ****ALL in the world of boxing.people should stop using that as a reference.its fabricated ranking system that has absolutely no influence on any santioning bodies rankings.ATLAS knows this! regional titles is the key to the organizational rankings not who is better in the public eyes.these minor belts catapult guys up each bodies rankings....chauncey welliver is a prime example.he holds the WBC continental americas title(top 15-20 in WBC) & is the interim WBO asian pacific champion(#11 WBO).he would be ranked higher if he beat tua who is the actual Asian pacific champ.tua(#2 WBO) holds WBO asian pacific & WBO oriental belts which gave him his ranking.ATLAS is no dumby & has a plan.as long as povetkin wins his fights,he will be right at the top of the contender food chain by mid 2011 with a nice win streak & momentum.the key for sasha is winning these fights.adamek & tua are the key targets for sasha & welliver has been making noise in the WBO with regional wins & is trying to secure a fight with tua.he's #11 & fits the criteria of what atlas is looking for in an opponent....DON'T write off sasha just yet because i see exactly what his camp is doing & any critic should pay close attention too.
